Where i came from we called those breaks in the clouds sucker holes for exactly this reason. There will be rain by the time the get half way through their picnic.
On a picnic with my future in-laws – suggested by my fiance, who was away working – a drownpour cut loose the moment the burgers were seered. We ate in the car after several back-and-forth runs. I long considered hiring my wife out to plan picnics in drought-stricken regions.
