Bible thumping evangelicals shouldn’t decide anyone’s rights.

That is correct (surprisingly). But how does Goodwyn propose that women CAN decide for themselves when the old (white) (guys) have made it illegal to decide for themselves?

The only reasonable solution, seems to me, is to VOTE THE REPUBLICANS OUT. All the way down the ballot. No matter how much worse the Democrat might be in some other way.

    “Abortion is murder.”

    .

    MURDER!!!!!!!!!!!

Murder is a capital crime, right?

Therefore, ANY woman who willingly undergoes an abortion, should be executed. It is obviously premeditated, so that is first degree MURDER!!!!!!!!!!

Along with the woman being put to death, the doctor also needs to be executed.

Any accomplices, such as any nurses or any medical technician, receptionist, anyone who provides transportation or information about the procedure is an accomplice to first degree MURDER!!!! and must be imprisoned for several years.

    .

    Because PRO LIFE!!!

    Also, Compassionate Conservatism.

Basic human rights that are “settled law” should not be called into question by rapists and religious zealots. And basic human rights shouldn’t be called into question for state-by-state voting. What basic human rights are the GQP wanting to vote on next?

True enough, the most simple answer has always been: Don’t believe in abortion, don’t have one. See, simple, no idiotic laws needed.

This doesn’t make any sense. Roe v Wade allows women to make their own decision along with their doctor. Overturning it allows state legislatures to force their opinions on women. Several Republican states are so heavily gerrymandered that even though there are more votes for Democratic candidates, the Repubs still hold the majority of the seats. WI and FL are just 2 examples and DeSantis is making FL even worse.

You mean in 1973 when black robed justices, all men, decided to make abortion available to women because men, in control of state governments, passed draconian laws that forced women to get back alley abortions that threatened their health and ability to reproduce in the future? You mean men, who won’t EVER fully understand the pain of abortion creating laws based on their fake interpretation of the Bible which does NOT prohibit abortion, even though it was written by men.

    Those men?

For 2.5 years it was "You don’t have a choice. Your body is government property. You want to work and eat, you must take the vaxx. And now it is “My body, my choice?” Why not do the simple thing. Don’t have sex until you are ready to have children, instead of sacrificing them to Ba’al / Moloch… but then you would have to show some responsibility.

ok, so continuing this theme, why are states banning abortion. Let the people decide for themselves. This is an individual choice and not for a few to make on behalf. And please don’t tell me that elected officials are the voice of the people. None of them got 100% vote. So no elected official is the complete voice of people. (And lately mabt have won by quirks of voting system.)

the majority now wants to allow women freedom of choice, regardless of what a bunch of men decided in 1973. but, of course, right wingers just want to bang on about what happened in the past…

The cartoonist is right. The people should decide private morality for themselves, not government. Therefore that decision must be for the one who will also take the consequences, as Roe vs Wade (and US vs Struck) intended. As government has creeping business in abortion before viability, Roe was a compromise which balances the competing interests The prostrifers won’t pay for the taxes for their unenforceable laws any more than the “drys” did in Prohibition. Most abortions take place in cities where the opinion is overwhelmingly prochoice. The prostrifers don’t get it. As US vs Struck showed, government also doesn’t have the right to force abortions either. My mother and I are staunch Catholic, like Joe Biden. We agree that abortion is wrong, but it’s still the choice of individual who must live with the choice. As we don’t agree with burning heretics at the stake for denying transubstantiation, we see the secular authorities remain separate from religion.

Goodwyn is correct, people should decide for themselves. That’s what the court decided in Roe v Wade in 1973, that it is not the states business if you get an abortion.

Goodwyn would like it to be the states business.

Strict constructionalism is a judicial philosophy that adheres to the Constitution as written, rather than interpreting it to keep up with the times.

Should the court continue with a strict constructionalism interpretation contraception could end, LGBTQ+ rights along with gay marriage could end, interracial marriage could end, only white male property owners could vote. In other words, the country would be driven back into the 17th century… like Alito seems to want.

’Tis like the bible. One should not take much in the bible at face value considering it was written 1000s of years ago before science was even a word. So, too, has society & civilization has changed since the 17th century, even since the 20th century. The Constitution should be rewritten/updated.

The 1973 decision allowed a choice. If a woman does not want an abortion then don’t get one.

Christians are really trying to convince us that the God who murdered Bathsheba’s newborn, killed all the firstborn sons of Egypt, sent bears to murder little children, commanded Joshua to kill all the children in Jericho, now suddenly cares about ‘unborn babies’.

In 1973, the “Men” didn’t tell women they had to do anything; they gave women a CHOICE.

Sovereignty over one’s own body is a fundamental human right. Reproduce…don’t reproduce…it’s up to the woman.

Only one side, the Republican side, wants to take away women’s rights. Republicans can try to obfuscate the topic as much as they can; it won’t work.

“Life begins at birth with the first breath,” Gen 2:7

Fetuses are not persons. Ex 21:22-25

Fetuses should be aborted as proof of adultery. Numbers 5:11-31

Life is not sacred. Deuteronomy 28: 18-24

God will kill unborn fetuses. Isaiah 13:18

Wow Godwin your a Dam Genius.

We should repeal all laws passed by White Men … Ironically we can repel the 19th amendment because…..it was passed by white men.

I also love that Alito in writing his misguided decision quoted from a famous 16th century British jurist, Matthew Hale.

Hale was a man who believed women could be witches, assumed women were liars and thought husbands owned their wives’ bodies

You thought that Alito was going to drag us into the 20th century.

You were so wrong….. He wants to drag us into the 16th century
