@thefool Yeah most poor people have gardens which they are not utilizing, like those French peasants who didn’t want to eat cake.

Yes, Maruchan makes a roast beef-flavored ramen. If you buy a can of roast beef and dump it into 2-3 packets, you CAN make a main course.

Inflation has hit the world and for the same reason. The entire world has suffered a devastating pandemic that is now in the endemic stage. We have so many external forces — the shutdown of so much Chinese manufacturing especially right now is a major one — that we don’t get to control. Of course, some of the measures that the government took to keep people housed and fed during the worst of it are now contributing to the inflation, so that’s a drag. But it is not the worst thing going on, and all other economic indicators are actually quite strong.

Funny, this little ‘piggy’ has been there a long time. It’s called ‘living on a fixed income’.

We began buying some house brands a few decades back. Weren’t much in the beginning but they definitely have improved in both taste and content. And the price, while not a lot lower, does add a few pennies to the budget for other things.

Sounds like me when I was attending College. I ate lots of: “Beef”, “Shrimp”, and “Chicken” flavored Ramen. I don’t recall “Roast-Beef” flavored, though.

Talk is cheap! It’s best to remain silent and let them believe you stupid, than to open your mouth and remove all doubts!

This is a story from pre-pandemic times. There was a time when the government food stamp program had a glitch and the food stamps (handouts to you Republicans) were being delayed.

My wife was the nurse working with a poorer population and found out that women in her community were not eating because their stamps were use to feed the children and a few to feed working men. She went back to the faith based community and they responded. It was the multiplication of fish and loaves accomplished by people instead of “miracle.”

Since then the community has become aware of food insecurity (is it OK to use “food insecurity,” “at risk,” and “malnutrition” in GOP America? Such terms make people feel uncomfortable) and people who do have gardens and small farms have turned over part of their land to produce food for these people.

An owner of a low-income apartment complex also allowed some groups to “develop” part of the property that had been unused as a garden for the residents.

It’s not “a thousand points of light” but a dozen or so, but it is a start.

We have some real shitholes for most of our politicians in my area, but we have a lot of great people. These people, not the asshole politicians or self-proclaimed militia with guns or holier-than-thou Bible thumpers, are what make America Great.

Rand Paul, Sen from KY is apparently running for reelection this year. Only reason I know this is the commercials I have been seeing daily on my LOCAL NEWS broadcast. What I did not know is that apparently he is running for a Senate seat in Oklahoma. Not a clue why he is paying Channel 6 in Tulsa and channel 9 in Oklahoma city to run those commercials. Only thing I can think of is that he hired someone who has no analysis skills

Back in the old days most of the food we bought had labels that told us who made it. Now the labels only tell us who distributed it. We already new that, it was distributed by the store where you bought it. They don’t want us to know that name brand food comes from the same processors as generic, just a different label.

I find it curiouser and curiouser that the prices were increased due to conditions of the pandemic.

When the worst of the pandemic was over the prices didn’t go back down as one would expect.

Strangely enough, the prices increased even more. I wonder if the reason the prices didn’t return to the pre-pandemic levels is that the corporate owners have found an easy mark.

No, inflation isn’t good, but it isn’t driving people to the poor house. Wages are also rising and we have full employment.
