For Republicans only two things have “Rights” : Guns and fetal cells. Everything and everyone else is fair game. Their policies are driven not by the love of life, but by contempt of it.
Wait and see what cases they attack next. They’ll go after amendments.
Remember these a-hole trolls are the ones who keep repeating that “the constitution is not a living” construct. They refuse to accept the concepof many amendments (with obviously rabid defense of one). This is an old tactic of fascists.
So which case is next? Brown v Board of Education? Griswold v Connecticut? Pleszy v Ferguson?
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
Make these things articles of law before they try to filibuster their way over more of human rights.
And if they’ll protect a fetus but not a child, not a mother, not a healthcare system then all they are doing is attacking the poor and those victims of sexual assault they’ve already defined as not caring about – incest victims, rape victims, and so on.
They’ve claimed that there’s no one being forced to have sex against their will. Anybody else that can think of a couple of simple words that describe that use of force exactly? Hmm?
Wanna bet how fast their daughters, wives, mistresses, and victims are scurrying to get an abortion? Want to guess how many botched attempts at non-licensed abortions end in the maiming and death of women outside of their oligarchy?
I’m pleased that Republican legislatures in states banning abortions are voting for increased funding for maternal pre-natal care and for enough food/job training/housing/healthcare so infants can be brought up in stable environments … /s
Freedom. Fewer intrusive laws. Self-governance. These are the things that Republicans used to believe in.
Today, there is no Republican party. It is a theocracy governed movement that is the Christian Taliban.
If you respect women and feel that the government has absolutely no business regulating a woman’s womb, you have to vote for every Democrat you can in November. Next on the Christian Taliban’s list is a nationwide ban on all abortions; then, they will go after gay marriage and the LBGTQ community, which won’t end there.
The next group, the Christian Taliban, will come after, is you.
No one mentioned this: abortion was legal at the time of the Constitution because all operations were dangerous and it was safer carrying to term. Uncle Thomas, Scalito, Garsuch, Keganaugh, and Ancilla Barrett should go back to 1787 and die from some curable disease if they should want to live then. Would Ancilla survive those childbirths? Would any survive operations without anesthesia? Would Uncle Thomas enjoy the slavery he praised? John Roberts must be tearing out what little hair he has left. If he’d thought that leak was bad, wait until the reactionaries try to enforce those laws. Prohibition has returned.
People should read the draft. The decision as written is in no way based upon anyone’s “rights”. Roe v. Wade was a bad legal decision and should be overturned as a matter of law. RGB, according to her own words, would have sided with Alito on this if she were still alive and on the court. SCOTUS should have simply sided against TX law and left it there. But by making a broader decision she viewed it as legally “unstable”. While she agrees with the policy of legal abortion, she was critical of the decision in Roe v. Wade. So, if she were still here, unless she voted on the politics around the issue, she’d have to side with Alito.
Now that Roe v. Wade is set to be overturned, The GOP SCOTUS can move on to restoring more of those traditional American Values that made us great; Prohibition, Blue Laws, Jim Crow, Miscegenation Laws, and the Repeal of the 13th and 19th Amendments. /S
It appears to me that SCOTUS is getting the Feds out of the abortion business. The ruling puts the abortion issue squarely into the hands of the states. The federal laws do not apply anymore. If the states voters don`t like the laws of their state, they have two choices. They can vote in people that think the way they do or move to another state.
SO. WEIRD. how the Supreme Court building had a huge barricade up around the building within minutes of the leak happening, while pretending they were blindsided by the news.
So the real test of the importance of this matter is probably only what it translates into in regard to votes at mid term, will those favoring pro-choice matter, if not then their voices are pretty much just….voices. It is still what you do and not what you say that matters.
