I worked in the restaurant industry for over 30 years…last year, went to work in a warehouse…yes, I’m making more money, but inflation also hit, and I’m still struggling to pay my bills (mostly health issues)…sigh.
It is common in food service to make a person “assistant” manager so they can work them 40+ hours and not pay overtime. So to be consider a manager by labor law you have to spend 50%+ of your time managing and not doing the same work as the people you mange.
