Bernice: I’m not taking notes, Greg forgot to sign and date.

I remember when I needed to break up with somebody, I sent them a message saying 5-19 GREG too. That actually did the trick.

The real problem is that she will forget to bring her laptop when she goes to break up with him.

More involved than she wants right now? They get together and kiss occasionally, and that’s it. It’s barely a relationship at all! Does she even know his last name? Do they ever confide in one another? We know there’s no physical intimacy since Bernice has already stated that sex is off the table basically forever, but what about emotional intimacy? These two couldn’t be less “involved” if they tried!

I don’t imagine she is thinking with her heart as much as with another part downstairs…

Umm…. One of the last persons I’d be taking relationship advice from is Luann.

The problem is she wants more than she wants.

Bernice is doing a personal inventory and trying to determine if she actually has a heart.

Another good strip. Luann is giving good advice which Bernice feels compelled to take down as notes. From Bernice’s past behavior this is probably for the best but Luann ends with both a good quip and good advice — this isn’t something you take notes on.

It’s cute that she’s filing these notes under “Greg-5-19”

“Trapped”. The feeling one gets when he or she uses someone to relieve their physical needs, but is not emotionally committed. Kip and Stef both realize that they are in a no strings attached, sex based relationship.

I wish this would stop!

Luann, you are NOT helping. Bernice is AFRAID of losing control so she is pushing Nil away. You need to get that pronto before she goes and tells Nil to get lost. You need to tell Bernice to tell Nil they are going too fast and doing mostly the physical part of the relationship and that they need to know each other better outside of that.

These two deserve nobody.

Luann is being very sensitive and philosophical here. Yet another display of someone else (Dez is one) “out-counseling” the counselor.

Luann is an expert when it comes to not using your brain.

More and more sure Bernice don’t deserve a friend like Luann. Someone that don’t care about how many times you treat them bad and always is ready for support, help and love you. Luann is not just like a sister for Bernice, is like an aunt and a mother too.

Bernice really wants Jack anyway… And when she’s snogging Nil, she probably imagines that it’s Jack…

I’m having a bit of a cognitive dissonance over the fact that Luann is giving dating advice…and that it actually makes sense.

I guess it’s easier to tackle problems that aren’t one’s own…

Maybe Nil is the Starter Boyfriend. You know, Entry Level.

Bernice; Do stop taking notes, and, do stop from taking advice about romance from someone whose own relationships have been like the Hindenburg. Disasters. Go to Nancy. Toni. Your old high school counselor. Even Betts. Anybody who has had/is having an successful relationship.

Is there a character in this comic strip who needs psychiatric attention more than Bernice? Maybe Stephanie, Ann or Les? Your thoughts?

Bernice – “Oh Luann! I thought you’d NEVER ask! Please do! (And don’t get any ‘bright ideas’ about keeping him for yourself, in case I change my mind about him, later!)

“More involved than you want right now” Weak! What is that supposed to mean? If a guy said that to me in a breakup, I’d have to call BS. I’d want to be treated with respect, not given some lame cowardly excuse.

Right, Bernice. Listen to Luann and write down what she says. After all, who knows more about romance and successful relationships than Luann DeGroot?

Write it down. Read it. Ask yourself if it is true.

“My heart”….Bernice doesn’t seem to relate to that being a possible factor. I think it’s safe to say the part of her body that is driving her behaviors is definitely not her heart – proving this is not an emotional connection, just a physical lust connection. Unfortunately, those types of relationships never last and usually end badly…but maybe a shallow sex hook up is all she wants. It certainly doesn’t say much for her values. At least Nil expressed a sincere admiration for her as a PERSON…if he had looked at her with both eyes would he have seen her more clearly?

Maybe Bernice should go to AFrica and help that famous lady scientist count gorillas.

Ah, Bernice & Nil. I think Bob Seger said it best. “Only one thing in common; they got the fire down below”.

I never thought I would see the day when Luann made more sense than Bernice!

Finally, it’s conclusive – Bern and I are very much alike.

The only time we saw Bernice and Nil on a normal date is when they went to Nil’s art show, and Bernice told him she doesn’t like his art. I don’t think there’s anything about him (besides the kisses) that she really admires,….except for that big word thing – THAT’S what got this whole thing started!

Bernice’s heart is obviously not in breaking up (or breaking off) with Nil. She seems to think it’s a good idea, but her real feelings are sabotaging her “good” intentions. Holding two strong contradictory emotions is not a rare thing.

I think Luann should be asking Bernice why she wants to break up with Nil. Sure, we all have a sense of the problem But Luann should make Bern verbalize it on her own.

Sallymargaret, we are alive and well, just very (very, very…) busy. I got out of the habit of reading the comments section. Hope this finds you well, too!

Won’t work, Luann. To out are good at talking about emotions and relationships. Betn isn’t and can’t. Therefore, she should just keep it as simple and short as possible. “We need a break, let’s check in in a month if we want. Bye”

Luann gets shade here for trying to talk to her friend, Bernice gets shade because of hatred toward her. Seems to me these comments totally miss the story here.
