I was told to toss in a bit of sand on occasion, to help with the gizzard action.

I was told chocolate can kill budgies.

“How about some Cocoa Puffs?” “You could go Cuckoo for a while.”

Birds supposedly aren’t affected by the hottest of peppers and will eat them like candy.

Even in very small amounts, chocolate can be toxic to birds. Chocolate contains both theobromine and caffeine which can cause vomiting and diarrhea, increase heart rate, result in hyperactivity, induce tremors and seizures, and even cause death in birds. As little as 3 M&Ms can kill a songbird.

Don’t do it Ziggy. The bird is depressed. Chocolate chips are not a cure.

Even though they are omnivores, there are certain things that a parrot should not eat, especially chocolate. Chocolate contains caffeine and theobromine, which are chemical compounds that are toxic to parrots.

Ziggy: Maybe I should mix some parrot into my diet once in a while.

Chocolate is good for humans and dairy cows, it is poison to dogs and cats, but how does it affect birds?
