Didn’t Mr’s Olsen say that you don’t slice toast?

    Caulfield’s first premise is suspect.

I suspected the previous strips were a setup for something more profound. Wonder how Scherzo is going to gripe about this one …

If he has a Ph.D., then why isn’t he Dr. Spaetzel?

I live a half mile from Dr. William H. Cosby, Jr., who holds an Ed. D. from the University of Massachusetts, and it’s not an honorary degree.

There are 4 ways to slice toast in 2 parts: top to bottom; side to side; on the diagonal; or wonky.

Just becauze he accepts little things the way they are doesn’t mean he has the same attitude toward big things. Maybe he just has good priorities.

This strip made me curious, so I did a little searching for black PhD’s born in the 60s who support Trump. I didn’t find anyone who exactly fits the bill, but I certainly did find well educated Black people who are dyed-in-the wool MAGA-hats. Curiously enough, they seem to be born in the 1980s, not the 1960s. Anyway, it just shows to go — check your stereotypes. There’s enough variety in the human race to find examples of almost anything.

You’d hope Caulfield will be a little less self-absorbed and ‘judgy’ after this one! :-)

A PhD in Education is a serious accomplishment; he should use his title.

But a HS principal is far more likely to have an EdD – which the PhDs sneer at (average PhD dissertation length – 350 pages; average EdD “dissertation” length – 20 pages……..)

I bake my own bread. Even with a slicing guide the slices are not all the same thickness.

I think it means that Dr Spaetzle has learned to pick his battles. He does not waste time slicing bread when he can buy his bread pre-sliced.

And then there’s Dr Who. He didn’t like toast, he preferred fish sticks and custard. In UK, a GP is called Doctor, however, a male surgeon is called Mister. A female surgeon is called Ms/Miss/Mrs

as opposed to a White Woman with a PhD in Education, who teaches at a community college and yet because of her gender, gets smeared for using her title; Dr Jill Biden!

I remember the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. He was a kid in the era of great social change (60’s-70’s) but got his doctorate in the 80’s when things had smoothed out considerably. (I know, not perfect then or now!) Maybe his perceptions were influenced by that. Or it could be he just grew up with Sesame Street and Mister Rogers’ calmer, happier approach to life.

You can learn a lot about a person when you learn that they think you can learn a lot about a person when the subject is toast.

Accepting people the way they are is a good thing; accepting things the way they are may be unavoidable but shouldn’t be taken either for granted or as inevitable.

The 60s were a great time to be born “black” and still end up with a PhD. Later, some wise guys started saying doing that sort of thing was “too white” and black people should reconnect with their ancestral roots, rebel against “white culture,” speak their own form of English with a strong urban accent and slang so they were barely intelligible to anyone else, etc. Not to say, be foul-mouthed, sexually irresponsible drug users/pushers and gang members. That’s “progress” for you.
