We had songbirds here once when I was younger, but in the last 2 decades all I have heard was crows and seagulls. No doubt from all the open fields being plowed under and developed. No fields, no seed nor grain, no nesting birds. No song.
Last year I put some small bird feeders out back, and now I heard bird song all of the time. Especially when I am re-loading the feeder. Same song sometimes? No problem. Sing it!
(P.S…. I’m feeding crows here too. Nobody with feathers goes hungry on my watch. Amazingly smart little fellas. I love to watch them flip, sort and stack saddle-shaped Pringles potato chips so that they can carry away several at one time.)

Then they sit by your window at 5 in the morning and sit there singing the same song over and over again.

Well, if birds evolved from dinosaurs, then who’s to say that dinosaurs didn’t tweet songs instead of roaring?

It is theorized that long protuberance behind the head on some Pterosaurs was a resonance chamber to give them a distinctive voice.

Wait for the crows at 4am. Birdsong hasn’t evolved all that far.

You literally cannot wait for songbirds to evolve.

I live in Florida. If you’ve ever heard a Great Blue Heron “squawk”, you would know for CERTAIN how prehistoric a bird it evolved from! Amazing!

I have a pair of mourning doves on my deck that start their day way too early for me. The “u” should be dropped from their name.

I’m thinking that one is well on its way to being a Woodpecker. Does a woodpecker even have a song?

Dinosaurs were extinct for about 60 million years before human ancestors came down from the trees.

Had a math teacher, Mr. Strax. Going into class once, a kid quipped, “Strax is the kind of noise a pterodactyl makes.”
