Electronic payment for one doughnut; has it come to that where you live? Even if it is a Gourmet… with almonds.

Why would there be a tip option in a shop.

Twenty percent just like anywhere. She probably can’t afford those gourmet donuts on what they pay her.

Isn’t the tip amount based on purchase price AND personal interaction? I’d start with 20% and go up or down based on personal interface. $2.25 for the donut, and a so-so salesperson comes to $0.45, but I would round up the total to a dollar amount [Assuming 10% tax, $2.25 + 0.23 + 0.45 = $2.93, so make it $3.00. If either of us smiled, add another dollar.]

tipping is archaic. Supported by those don’t want to pay their people and the few who are lucky enough to make an exorbitant amount.

This custom of dipping is irrational. It’s one thing if someone comes to your table, takes your order and delivers it on time. Another if you stand in line to order something and then they hand it to you. I don’t tip in those situations. I was in London a couple of years ago and I asked someone about tipping and they said it’s not done there.

I worked in Seattle for a telecom company. While doing a job at a well known coffee corporation headquarters. I went well beyond my job to help in correcting the problem, did I get a free cup of coffee (even though they have coffee machines throughout the building) . No they just wanted the problem fixed. Well guess what I just want my coffee. Will never tip at SB’s.

Doesn’t matter…fast food or donut joint….ain’t tipping; unless I feel like it.. PS. If they have a nasty attitude & I’ve been nothing but pleasant in return…you’re getting nothing.

You’re overthinking, Betty. In this particular case, you tip if you hope they’re still in business the next time you walk down that street.

The tip is inversely proportional to the time of service, and directly proportional with pleasantness. Come on! I can make an almost good portrait (photo) of you in a couple of hours, by many shots and some luck. A pro portrait photographer will take a stunning pic in significantly shorter time. We pay to the staff for their expertise and for our time not wasted on the service.
