Sometimes I don’t even understand why DVDs have the subtitle option to movies, but don’t add anything to when some characters speak a foreign language which don’t come with subtitles.

I saw this movie in my mid-thirties in a revival theater. At the end I had trouble believing it was 3-and-a-half hours long! It had been so engrossing, capturing all my interest … even with subtitles.

I saw it in an art house theatre in 1971, glorious!

If you ever have a hearing loss, Zack, you’ll have to do a LOT of homework…

The first subtitled movie I remember seeing was the Klaus Kinski Nosferatu at a theatre, short years later Das Boot in German on HBO. It made it more atmospheric. Nowadays I wouldn’t watch any anime that way, preferring dubbed, whether it’s the voices or the distraction from the action.

I don’t like the ones with subtitles either. I have a habit of doing needlework while watching which makes it impossible to keep up

Zack figures it’s easier just to learn Japanese!
