Star Drek "the poverty paradox" Captain's log, stardate 1997: having been trapped in the late 20th century by a temporal anomaly, the crew inexplicably finds itself in the white house. This is so cool! I'm the president! Bill, we have a problem I called a meeting. It seems impossible, but while the united states economy is booming, the average American is experiencing lower real wages! So that's the cause of the social instability that we encountered! I didn't know what to do. I don't know what to do, but ensign boison has a proposal to get the economy back on track. Yes. I do. I propose that we travel back by time to 1970, when the standard of living began to collapse, and re-calibrate the inflation rat down a point or two then everyone will feel richer without actually getting more money! It could work... Brilliant! Afterwards: success! Check it out! We aren't as poor as we thought!
