I’m not so sure…I think they love democracy, but only if it the end result puts them (and keeps them) in office.
I’m reminded of the 1988 film “moon over parador” where the dictator has free and open elections and the people are allowed to ‘vote’. One candidate is the dictator with a “red” background…the other, is the dictator with the “blue” background.
Used to be voter suppression was enough. Trump showed them the way. Never concede defeat, subvert the results by any means available, legal or otherwise.

Anyone can vote, but me and my friends get to count the votes, and determine the winner. Catch-22.
