They are more like those retracting spikes that prevent you from going the wrong way, except they were installed backwards. So they only prevent congress from going the correct way.
The fascist, nationalist, white, pseudo-christian, misogynistic, homophobic, anti-democratic movement would lose momentum if democracy and a functional republic were perceived as beneficial to everyone through infrastructure repair and stronger voting rights — making every vote count — putting the public back in charge, building a stronger nation, ending the tyranny of individual states or parties using government for personal gain … so the willful obstruction by the malicious maladroits will persist by those who would lose their power/control.
I think ‘potholes’ would be more accurate than speed bumps. The county where I live waits until most cars need new tires and a front end alignment before refiling the potholes with the same old stuff again. Spent their gas tax money on something else like creating more bike lanes in town . . . . /S
I can, a bit, understand some opposition to the amounts proposed in spending bills. But what is unconsciousable is that Sinema and Manchin are not actually working with their own party to advance its legislation. As for opposing a voting rights bill, there is absolutely no excuses they can make for their opposition.
Sinema and Manchin are likely to change parties. After the mid-terms, Rs will get the Senate back and then these two will join the majority again. Probably bargaining for some committees already.
I cannot fathom this woman’s apathy and arrogance.Top donors threaten to cut off funding to SinemaThe donors said they will support a primary challenge, and demanded that the senator refund their contributions.Sinema nevertheless voted Wednesday night against weakening the filibuster to pass elections and voting reform.
It is regrettable that two senators can stop such good legislation. If only the Dems had more votes on their side, then these two DINO’s would not be a problem. But, I see the Dem leadership, including the President, to be equally at fault in their packaging of the legislation. Remember? We started with a big infrastructure bill that most everyone wanted, but it had to be linked to the BBB bill, or no passage, or so said the Dem leaders. But, low and behold, they realized they needed some kind of bill and allowed the two super bills to be unhitched so we were able to get the infrastructure bill passed. Now, BBB is stuck on hold largely from being just too big to pass. So, now, saner heads are at work trying to get this super bill broken up into lots of smaller bills that might have a chance at passage. Maybe all this craziness was part of the Biden plan from the beginning. But, it does seem like such a waste of time, given the political realities in Congress.

Those speed bumps should have spikes sticking up from them.

I don’t usually get a nice laugh from a political cartoon, but this one hit me just right. Thank you M. Deering!

Speed bumps merely slow down forward progress. These two are more like jersey barriers.
