“Oh, that’s a whole different thing then. What say we blow up their transmitter ASAP?”

    “Sounds good to me.”

I always get a kick out of Jingle Bells being called a Christmas song. It’s a winter song.

The stations that do that enjoy their highest ratings for the year, so there’s that.

One July I was going thru a town that had Christmas decorations up and then on the radio a Christmas ad started playing. I thought I was in the Twilight Zone!

There are 2 – 4 internet radio stations that play that music 24/7/365. SOMA FM originally had just one channel and it played from Black Friday until Boxing Day. They now have 4 and played from November 1 until January 31 in 2021. What the end is going to be this year I don’t know.

Another reason I don’t listen to radio and just play my own music. Ugh. How many frikkin’ times can a person listen to ‘Santa Baby’ without going insane?

Serious comment of the day: Jingle Bells is not a Christmas song! Think of the lyrics – it’s a winter song!

My favorite station starts only playing Christmas music around the middle of November. I doubt I listened to more than three or four songs until they went back to regular music. I listened to four other stations on my car radio favorites.

Abstemious as I am, I usually abstain from Christmas music (and seasonal but not Christmassy tunes like Jingle Bells) for at least a few months after the first week in January. But it’s not easy! So few of the songs that really buoy my spirits are non-Christmas or non-Winter-fun songs. But of course Christmas songs I select myself are a whole different animal from what local radio stations think people want to hear at that time of year.

And nobody plays Stan Freberg’s “Green Christmas” anymore. Have to play that one myself.
