Somehow I thought of Scott Boras when I saw Murray.

Can we nominate “the former guy” as the jerkiest fake golfer? But not just last year. He’s been cheating at golf since he started golfing.

The reason I try to pay attention every year to the SJOY is for the review and reminder of all the jerks whose heads have popped up. We all have short memories, so the refresher is helpful.

Really, it’s all like a game of whack-a-mole, with folks showing up on the radar frequently through the year. Frequent, but not predictable. Choosing one has been the tradition for a long time. But now, it seems, Bill Hinds has seen the need to keep up with the times, as the total number of big-time jerks per year has risen too sharply to select only one. Think of it being called “first runner-up” and “second runner-up.” It’s the same thing. But calling it “gold, silver, and bronze” resonates with sports fans and, I think, is understood worldwide.

So Manfred is a potential choice. No-brainer, single-handedly destroyed baseball with an unforced error.

Who started this year’s “Brady will retire” rumor? Sure, it will happen someday, but starting the rumor while the Super Bowl is still weeks away is unthinkable. SJOY that guy!
