Below is my gloss for readers relatively unfamiliar with Latin American/ Mexican/ Catholic culture. You’ll probably want to skip it if you already know all about “El Dia de los Reyes Magos.”
In the Church calendar, January 6 is Epiphany Day, which celebrates the revelation of Christ to the Gentiles, as exemplified by the visit of the Wise Men from the East to the infant Jesus. This event is described in the Bible in Matthew 2: 1-12. In the original Greek, these wise men are called magi. A magus (plural: magi) was a Zoroastrian priest, astronomer/astrologer, adviser to rulers, and (in some cases) sorcerer, generally in the Persian empire. The Gospel does not say how many magi visited, nor the names of any of them, nor that they were kings; but traditions later developed that the magi in question were three kings, named Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar. The Gospel does mention three gifts they brought: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Traditionally, gold symbolizes royalty, frankincense is an offering to a god, and myrrh was used to embalm dead people of high rank.
In Hispanocatholic world, the Three Kings are said to visit homes on Epiphany Day, bringing gifts for children (although nowadays this custom is being eclipsed by the Santa Claus tradition from northern Europe and North America). In Spanish, they are usually called “los Reyes Magos” (“the Priest Kings,” more or less).
So, thanks to last year’s insurrection, January 6th has been hijacked from el Dia de los Reyes Magos to el Dia de los Racist MAGAs. Instead of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, they bring a bomb, pepper spray, and a weaponized “Blue Lives Matter” flag. Brilliant, Mr. Alcaraz, brilliant!
Flag the trolls. They’ve used anti-gay references, lies, hate speech, etc etc
But never respond to any of their comments. If you want to comment about those traitorous pissants, just go to the end of the comments and start a new comment thread. Anything else let’s those perverse fools get their jollys – they’re infantile sycophants of a sociopathic traitor. They simply whore for attention. Flagging and then ignoring them is the biggest insult to them. It’s a simple way to let them know how insignificant they truly are.
In an earlier time, it was “anarchists” who: “Threw booms, shot Politicians and generally caused mayhem”. Not much has changed. Want to get “your way”? Join the Trump Insurrectionist Party!

So, it’s been a year. Why is it the FBI never investigated who put pipe bombs at the headquarters of the Republicans and Democrats?
