One thing they all could have done was stock their cars with emergency items. Water, snacks and blankets are some of the things that should always be in our cars when travelling.

I hear it was only about a foot of snow!! Here in New England this would have been classified a minor inconvenience – at best!!

Another thing they SHOULD have done is believe that storms are bigger than human constructs. You won’t find sailors who believe they’re safe on the ocean… though most of them think they’re safe enough. As @sipsienwa says: If you’re traveling in the winter (or any time, really) you really need to have a couple of days worth of durable food, a half gallon of water for each person, and blankets. I noticed tonight on the news that the kids who looked okay had portable game systems too. Books would be better for me, but I’m old.

Geez folks, just stop responding to the trolls’ BS and baiting, and flag ‘em for their lies and not-so-closeted racist crap and the rest of their usual tripe. They’re only whoring for post counts that mean absolutely nothing.

This is what happens when there is a shortage of highway workers coupled with incompetent planning.

OTOH wasn’t most of the initial problem caused by truckers unable to handle the road conditions? And most of the beltway warriors skew left not right.

Weather: it always wins. If you can’t pay attention to the weather warnings, then too bad for you.

Until I looked again at the Interstate sign I at first glance thought this was cars fleeing the fires in Colorado.

Some morons have been blaming Youngkin even though he’s not in office yet. I wonder if AOC has taken a break from partying maskless in free Florida to weigh in on how awful Youngkin is doing? Yeah, I’m critical of AOC because I can’t date her LOL. :P

So, NONE of those idiots can watch the Weather Channel, or listen to the radio, or pay attention to their local television stations when they say “If you don’t have to go out on the roads, DON’T!” ??

And yes, the comments from these moronic motorists don’t sound all that far-fetched from the nonsense being spewed by today’s Qpublican Party parrots, INCLUDING a select few idiots right here in the comments section!

We know climate change is a hoax because it’s cold one day. In New York. In January.

I’m Canadian and used to spend winters in northern Virginia. A skiff of snow and they go berserk. We just had the equivalent snowfall on the prairies, another ho-hum day, fire up the snowblower and carry on.

Loved watching folks from way south trying to drive on Rte 50 with almost bald tires. There is a slight hill in Tysons Corner that is an easy drive with the right rubber. Otherwise you sit there and spin your tires

Seems a lot of these “incidents” are caused jackknifed trucks.. This because we have incompetent drivers?? Improper tires?? Drivers not obeying “chain up” signs?? Drivers meeting deadlines and putting safety second?

I do love how many liberals went all afire on twitter blaming Youngkin for the failure despite him being 10 days out from even getting into office…..

But they give the Klansman imitator or Blackfaced Governor (since he can’t remember which one he was since he did both) a free pass.

It’s the ideology that is so blinding.

I don’t see what this has to do with Republicans or Democrats nor do I see it as an indictment against the current or incoming Governor of Virginia. To me it was poking fun of the current trend of politicizing and/or finding a scapegoat for any problem or inconvenience. The weather is caused by whatever boogeyman they want to blame it on. “Weather forecasts of snow are a hoax,” “Anti-Fa caused it” or begging “socialism to save me.”

There were signs alerting motorists of the situation and to take the next off ramp exit.

We live in an area that rarely gets much snow, but we still have supplies in both vehicles. It does get cold here, there are occasional floods and wildfires happen.

We are in the northern tier and are used to heavy snowfalls. When we relocated here 45 years ago it was made clear that you always check the forecast if going outside of the county.

We maintain that habit when we are driving anywhere in the country on extended trips regardless of the time of year. It is just common sense.

So I have little sympathy for those who got caught in gridlock without an emergency kit or checking the forecast or getting traffic information. I don’t however hold Virginia blameless.

Apparently there were no contingency plans by state or local government.. People should have been rescued or had provisions get to them in no more than six hours.

Are we so dumb, in this day and age, that we cannot figure out a solution to a traffic jam that people are stranded 24 hours on a highway? Why did they not start at the end closest to the last clear exit and just turn them around and take them off the clear exit?
