Yeah, give civilization enough time and it will become very uncivil.

Hasn’t happened yet.

“Someday this will all be Malibu beachfront property”.

And the sharks will learn that you’re playing in their house.

“Someday this will all be used by people who think they are civilized …

… or at least more civilized that we are."

“I wonder how they will show it to each other? And how will they treat the environment?”

Wow! lots of food for thought here.

The ocean is civilized? Ask the great white shark if he acts civilized. I’ll give you the dolphins and the schools of fish.

At least the fish are better educated than most people. For aren’t they always in school?

Don’t worry, we never really get civilized.

To quote The Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy “For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.”

When you hear the “relentless march of civilisation”…run for your lives!

Civilized and regulated…

How do you define “civilized”? I’m sure the Romans thought they were civilized, but their main form of entertainment was to watch people kill each other or be eaten by wild animals, and competitors in their boxing matches used metal-studded gloves and fought to the death. Can people who do that really be called civilized?

We don’t kill people in the arena any more, and don’t have studs on our boxing gloves, but people still cheer when they see someone knocked out, and look how people behave when a well-known criminal is being executed (gathering outside and cheering). Are we really any better than the Romans?

There might be a lot more people but civilized?

That won’t happen until we rid ourselves of the scourge that is religion.

I remember a similar strip many years ago where everyone was playing in the water and they stopped saying “soon this will be gone…” or something similar

everything works in cycles …

It’s a cycle. I’m sort of thinking this comic is more of a prediction than a recollection. Year 3121 A.D.(or whatever they use these days)

Boy do you have that right

Don’t worry, old boy, splashing in the water and sunning by the sea will never be civilized. Though I guess wearing special attire while going to the seashore is a form of civilization, but a good one.

Here come the cruise ships!

Civilized definition: 1. At an advanced stage of social and cultural development. “a civilized society” 2. polite and well-mannered.

We can’t even define it right, because “a civilized society” as we know it, is not, “polite and well-mannered.” NO not at all.

Ha!

Civilization is overrated.
