Do you need to have a teaching license to work at a daycare school, or just be there? Because if Luann likes working with kids, day care seems more her speed than teaching.

Then again since Greg is working the Ugly Student angle (misdirection) I suspect the student will be the new boyfriend.

Luann, you need to take charge. If you think your student isn’t paying attention, MAKE them. Let them know they need to be there, you don’t and if they won’t take the lesson seriously, they can find another tutor. Luann, they are paying for your time. Remind any student who loafs of this.

It’s nice to see how Luann has a very realistic idea of what tutoring is, while Bernice seems to have a more idealistic view of it. This to remind us that Bernice is, after all, a dreamer while Luann is more pessimistic and avare of reality. Now I wonder how will be the child, or teen, who Luann will tutor. They might be a surprise to her.

Funny. Some students of all age groups need tutoring, so if Luann is at an organization that is not age-specific, then she could get to tutor an early-grade student. Others have commented earlier this job could lead to a romance. Well, there football players who need tutoring.

So, essentially, being at “Kids 1st” allowed Luann to be a kid herself. Being a tutor requires that Luann be an adult…. And apparently, she isn’t quite ready for the grown-up world yet.

    Hmm.

Maybe the person to be tutored will NOT be Fay.

After all, she was never deemed worthy enough to gain a bio in the “Characters” section at the top of the page. So Fay might be one and done.

Might NOT be some handsome but brainless new hunk either. But that’s a good thing. There’ are enough of THEM running around loose in the World as it is.

I doubt it would Jack. Waaaaaay too obvious.

Nil, maybe? Nah. I think Nil is smart. Plus he’d never sit still long enough to be “tutored” without making wisecracks.

(On the other hand, Luann tutoring either Nil or Jack would greatly “trouble” Bernice’s house. So there’s that.)

And the “student” being Les would make Me far too happy. So he is out.

The Great Fear is, that whomever or whatever Luann’s about to “instruct” might wind up being the “Student from the Infernal regions.” Some young Snot 100 times Worse than Shannon. But Lu can’t walk away because she needs this “job.”

Dark Times May soon overtake our young heroine. :-(

I agree with the other commenters. Luann would do well in a day care job. Kids 1st is basically just an after school day care program anyway, and she has CPR training, which would make her a strong candidate. Or…maybe Frank and Nancy are ready for a new business venture?

Unlike teaching a whole class a tutor is judged by the progress of one student. If the student needs and wants the help all goes well, but if they need help because they are a slacker in class the tutor might not help. Then the parent says, I used tutor Luann and she didn’t help my kid at all.

G&K have never suggested before that Luann had been working at Kids First solely because it was fun – implying that she didn’t care at all about the students, or about getting experience for her eventual career as a teacher. If this was real life, we’d be asking whether Luann was depressed, or whether maybe she needed to re-consider her career choice. Instead, we’re being asked to view Luann as a lazy slacker with no life goal but to have fun and take the easiest possible route through life. I’m beginning to think this comic strip has run its course.

Aren’t there daycare centers she can work at? When I was fresh out of highschool one of my very first jobs was working at a daycare center as a floater. That meant that when one of the permanent teachers or assistants called in sick, I would work in their classroom that day. I worked in all the rooms except the infant room because you had to have a special certification or experience to work with babies.

I spend s lot of time defending characters whose story is not being properly understood by those who project here, but then this strip invites projection. Something about young adults in a fantastical world, somewhat analogous to the real one we have to live in is the culprit, i think. Let’s not talk about hidden agendas. But this set of panels makes me feel great in my Luann commentary. Here the two friends show s full relationship, honesty, true talent in counseling by Bern, indicative of a real future as a counselor, and as a good honest, helpful friend. Luann being forced to confront her limitations and consider her strengths by her closest friend. There are all kinds of career choices that would use Luann’s strengths in a good, entertaining and interesting way and I will go out on a limb and predict that by and by Luann will figure it out, and we will go along for her journey. Hilarity will ensue though. I responded to someone today that said how do I get all this “sh.t” from reading a toon? This is one example of how.
