First it was Texas, now it’s Mississippi that insists on being pigs by telling women that they do not have a say in what happens to their bodies. Women are being treated, at least in those two states, like second class citizens! When did this nation go back to the 19th century?

Justice delayed is justice denied. Of course justice denied AND delayed is not justice at all. Despite the title that THEY call THEMSELVES. The rest of us have a few more… pungent… titles for some of them.

Nina Simone said it the best in her song Mississippi Goddam.

Yeah, I know, I’ve brought it up before, but 56 years later it’s still “Too Slow.”

Their rules won’t apply to the women in their lives, though. They’ll have them flown to NYC or somewhere else to get a safe abortion. Everyone else risks high morbidity and mortality. Freedom FROM religion and dumb judges, please.

The decision has already been made. The time delay is to make it look like they studied all aspects of the law.

I recently found out that Contraceptives were generally illegal in the USA until 1965. Note that contraceptives includes condoms. I was shocked to learn that this was not that long ago, and that condoms were considered illegal.

I will be just as shocked when we return to that era, as it appears we are…

Griswold v. Connecticut (1965) – The Court in this case struck down a law that prohibited married couples from using birth control and thereby found a constitutional right of married couples to use contraceptives.

Eisenstadt v. Baird (1972) – This decision established that unmarried people have the same contraception rights as married couples and may thereby engage in non-procreative sexual intercourse on the same basis

Next Up On GOP’s Agenda: Stripping Women Of Political & Economic Power

The Supreme Court and the Constitution don’t “grant” or “give” Americans rights: they recognize rights and define the extent to which they can be infringed upon by our government, theoretically balancing private rights against the public good.

That said, the Court can take away rights, although throughout their 240+ year history they’ve only done it in a big way once: in 1896 with their Plessy v Ferguson decision that, until they reversed it in 1954 in Brown v Board, took away the freedom and voting rights of African Americans for half a century.

In the case of Roe v Wade, the Court ruled in 1973 that women have both the 14th Amendment “liberty” right to control their own bodies and the 4th Amendment “privacy” right to keep it between themselves and their physicians.

Now, in a repeat of Plessy, it appears the Court is preparing to take away a constitutional right, this one being the right of women to autonomy over their own bodies.

But that’s just the first of a series of ideas Republicans have to regulate women’s behavior and roll back the clock to the early 1960s when women couldn’t get a credit card without their father’s or husband’s permission, had no legal right to birth control in some states, and faced fully legal discrimination in housing, education and employment.

Next up on the GOP’s agenda to strip women of political and economic power will be banning most forms of birth control used today, including birth control pills and the IUD.

Step one is to hyper-regulate “morning after pills.”

Attended a Catholic elementary school prior to Roe v Wade. Two of my classmates had older sisters that died from “appendix complications”. Even though I was only about 10 or 11, I heard the stories that these were back-alley abortions.

Margaret Sanger started the American Birth Control League which turned into Planned Parenthood to promote birth control because her mother died young after having eleven children and seven miscarriages.
