I get those in my Gmail account junk file. As for my Yahoo account, seldom.

The first thing I do when I read my email is go through and unsubscribe all the crap that gets through my spam filter, then the advertising, pay bills, and then read my comics! :D

Those companies tend to get your addy from related services you’ve undergone. Adopt a dog for example and start getting ads for “Chewy.com”. ;D

If you unsubscribe from these unknown sources, you’re just confirming your email address is valid.

Those are called scams.

Those pesky spam scams.

Tis a small price for living in a modern world ! We live with it and move on :-) ….. May take up to 10 days to be removed from our list ;-)

I agree with flyertom. DON’T unsubscribe from unknown lists, just mark them as spam. Only unsubscribe forth ones you wanted to hear from when you don’t want them anymore.

You don’t have to unsubscribe…just identify it as spam for your filter…problem solved

Don’t bother unsubscribing. Select the message and in gmail there’s a button that says “filter messages like these.” Click on that and select delete as the action. You can play with the parameters as you please.

It never ends.

Worse is when the “Unsubscribe” doesn’t work. One company I purchased one item years ago and have been unsubscribing every time they send an email. Nope. At least with JCWhitney, they had the cost of printing and mailing catalogs; email is too close to free and that 200th “sales” pitch might work.

Seems that most of the time the “Unsubscribe” link either doesn’t work or is sent into cyberspace. I started using their “Contact Us” link and threatened to report them to the FCC if they didn’t take me of their mailing list. Seems to work better.

I wish I could send an electronic blast back instead!

Forty-odd years ago, when home computers became a reality, we purchased one and got a free year’s subscription to a computer magazine. The magazine misspelled the first name — Rugbert instead of Robert. And we started getting flyers and catalogs addressed to ‘Rugbert’. We still get occasional Rugbert mailings, even though we have changed addresses five times. About ten years ago, I started getting emails for ‘Brad’, and I am not Brad. During the Black Friday advertising season this year, I got dozens. I have tried unsubscribing. Not the unsubscribes that ask for your email address, just the ones that ask for a reason. And I mark them as spam. But it does no good, because while the company/organization that sent me a particular message may remove me from their list; somewhere, years ago, someone compiling a master email list mis-matched my email address to the name Brad Thatcher and that master list continues to be sold to different groups. I wonder just how messed up that master list actually was. Did Brad miss this deluge of unwanted emails, or has he been getting emails for Sue or Polly or Fred? Are Sue, Polly, and Fred also getting emails addressed to other people? Does anyone purchasing an email list ever notify the original email-list compiler about address problems? Or do they just robotically continue to send out messages. Do people who compile master email lists not care if the names and addresses are correct, or are they only concerned about meeting a quota? Is this just another symptom of the times? Fake news, fake communication, fake concern.

Umm… It’s not just the pluggers wonder about that. Actually unsubscribing only confirms the address is valid.. good luck in actually un-describing. Best is the delete button.

You know those frequent shopper/discount/loyalty programs at grocery stores? That’s one way to get on multiple mailing lists.

I literally just got a telemarketer calling me about my medicare enrollment. Open enrollment has been closed almost a week!

I understand why and it infuriates me

And the SPAM filters keep putting my comic email in the spam folder.

I still receive a pile of paper catalogs this time of year. At least half are from companies I’ve never heard of.

Places sell your email address! We all get it…

Unsubscribing only confirms that they have your address.

Seriously. No matter how many times you check the box “Never subscribed to this list.”

When you click unsubscribe from a lot of e-mails all you are doing is verifying that the e-mail is a good e-mail.

Hopefully poor old clueless Jerry Rainy from Oregon will read some of the good tips here about not clicking the unsubscribe link!

I don’t bother to unsubscribe anymore. I just report them as spam & block them.
