Of course, I first thought of the Indians, who have for practical purposes always been here (you can’t get more “legacy” than that!) and of course the Spanish and Portuguese started their scams in the New World long before the ancestors of WASPS. But no, he seems to have been thinking of . . . himself. Who knows when his ancestors arrived and muscled in on a going concern. Long after the first Africans were brought here as slaves, for sure.
