Just went through this same thing last week when I cleaned out my spice rack! The codes are pretty much indecipherable. Some that I had marked myself were actually pre-historic! ☺
True.
I buy my spices at the discount store, and just toss them when they lose their nice smells. No angst about my system!
I only toss my spices when they get bugs or signs of decay, also when the flavor seems “off”. I’ve got some spices that are at least 30 years old.
Sounds like when you’re doing your annual taxes.
I haven’t found sloppy joe spice lately.
Smell it. If it has a nice strong small of whatever it is, it’s good. If you don’t smell anything, toss t.
I keep the ones I don’t use much in the freezer to preserve them — no need to throw them out.
Yup—in cases like this, I greatly prefer to K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid). Ha.
