A little bit of that is understandable, depending on grade level. And how much time is left after the mandated testing. What I worry about is the likelihood that there are also falsehoods being inserted. Particularly by one party…

Sad to see the US degenerating into two irrational third-world tribes — I’m the only true American, the “others” are evil — unable to communicate, collaborate, reach consensus, or compromise, with no real trust/respect for each other, only unyielding hatred.
We seem to be doing to ourselves what the CIA did [or attempted] by creating internal division in our enemies’ nations.
It’s impossible to communicate when one side is willfully ignorant and refuses to believe the truth because it is inconvenient. They revise history because they want us to be the good guys. We have to be the good guys when we never were. We really need to be honest with ourselves so we won’t make the same mistakes.
Not enough to send death threats to poll workers, have to win the hearts and minds of the children by threatening school boards. Nazi style book burning already proposed in Virginia.
They do the same thing with The Buy Bull. Look at their nonsense arguments about some of the things in Leviticus. They LOVE to cherry-pick what THEY want to believe in, but ignore the rest.
History tests must be easy to get a passing grade in those States where a lot of it was cut out. Wish my local school board had done the same to my Algebra and Geography books. I’m sure the school my wife attended cut out most of pages of the Home Economics books.I do have an un-cut prayer book to pray that her cooking won’t kill me.
I feel for my K-12 colleagues. As a college history professor I worked and consulted with many and often guested in their classrooms and at social studies clubs. I know them to be dedicated to students, discipline, and truth. The message from Republicans: We don’t trust you. We don’t like you. We will control you. And all in the name of “freedom.”
History courses through high school are focused on the U.S. and very generic, slanted towards events showing the “greatness” of the U.S. In college, one has the opportunity to expand the depth of their knowledge in U.S. and other nations’ histories. One also has the opportunities for independent readings, many excellent unbiased histories out there.
The gubmint of Montana just passed a law which, as written, makes it illegal for teachers/students to discuss the law itself, in class. Nice going, citizens of the Ostrich State.
In truth, history is always being rewritten and reinterpreted as successive generation discover more and undo the bias, conscious or otherwise, of previous generation. But that is a whole world away from the active suppression of critical (;-)) parts of a nations history. Until the world, not just the US, wakes up to the effects of the racism of the last 500 years we can never progress. I am hopeful for the openness and acceptance of the next generation.

@rags you are showing your left wing tendencies again. If you will recall, the removal of any statue or the name of any school that didn’t fit your narrative of the past was your party. Your party wantsto hide the past and make it what you wish. Let history be history. Don’t judge our ancestors by today’s mores.
Since we are discussing American History, today could be historic. Google: how many people in the united states have died from covid-19
As of this posting, 773,000 people have died from COVID-19 with over 1,000 people dying per day. The publishers say the data is two days old. Therefore, today is the day when over three-quarters of a MILLION people in the United States have died from COVID-19. The pandemic should be renamed the Pandemic of the Unvaccinated or the Pandemic of the Antivaxers.

Conservative American History consists of Manifest Destiny, the 1915 film The Birth of a Nation", and 1950’s Westerns.

They can delete, cut, erase, ignore, dismantle, destroy but the truth will always be there, wether it’s believed or not.
They’re just delusional to their own beliefs, conspiracy theories, and lies.

Not reporting bad history does not change that history. In fact, when the truth is finally uncovered (as it always is), it is worse.

American History, not U.S. History?
So it would include the history of Canada, Mexico, and Latin America as well?
Yeah, right.

Talking about history books…
Betrayal: Five bombshells from book charting chaotic final days of Donald Trump’s presidency
Mr Trump’s associates were cold-calling a top Defence Department official and making ridiculous demands
Mr Trump fired the Secretary of Defence on advice from the 30-year-old ex-quarterback who once carried his bags
The president asked his top intelligence official to investigate whether Chinese smart thermostats stole the election
A Fox News host called the attorney general to berate him about election conspiracy theories
There are secret photos of Mike Pence reading Mr Trump’s tweet attacking him during the Capitol insurrection
