Since only liberals are held to ethical standards, I guess Chase isn’t counting Watergate, either.

Just wait about two decades, Chase. Then you’ll see ethically challenged.

In the spring of 1987, when they should have been talking about Reagan’s malfeasance, the Washington press decided they had a safer target in the Democratic presidential candidates! (It’s telling that the GOP candidates were subject to no such pile-on—I didn’t notice any significant superiority on their part.) The mainstream press shrugged off Iran-Contra before the American people did…

I for one have NOT forgiven Reagan: he should have gone to prison like any war criminal, and I’m sure he’s gone to hell.

Clinton got away with a hell of a lot, but mainly because he kept us laughing while he did it.

Clinton is a “liberal”? Don’t make me laugh. He’s a corporate Democrat. If he were in Canada, he’d be a Progressive Conservative.

Oh yeah. I almost forgot about Oliver North and all that Iran/Contra stuff. I hear the NRA canned North because he claimed the head guy was crooked. …makes you think.

So, here is a question for you Yanks, not an opinion. The narrative is that you fight the good fight in a presidential election, do your best for your guy (and they have all been guys) but once X is elected, they are The President, revered by the nation and given due deference. So who was the last president for whom that was true? Obviously not Biden, tRump, Obama, BushII, Clinton, BushI (though all for different but related reasons). Ronnie at the time (though the glitter has worn off in hindsight)? Carter?

The Clintons were, and still are, corporatists who tried to be socially progressive, but were frustrated by Newt Gingrinch and his Contract On America among other things.

When I was in high school back in the 60s, my social studies teacher pointed out that if the US pulled a veto in the United Nations Security Council, there was an uproar, but when the USSR did … crickets. (Well, he didn’t use that term because it wasn’t a term back then.) Because the USSR always pulled vetoes, so they were held to a lesser standard than the US.

For the record: For more than 3 decades, the RepubliQans had pretty much constant “investigations” going. I use the quotation marks because these exercises in partisan persecution had no interest in truth; they were intended to find something – anything to pin on a Clinton – any Clinton.

For the millions of man-hours and hundreds of million of tax dollars they expended, they came up with a total of 1 (one) felony indictment of a distant associate for something completely unrelated to the Clintons, and one impeachment for lying about a beej. Period.

So, while Bill & Hillary are both corporately controlled conservatives, we know that there are at least 2 people in US politics who are not criminals, thanks to the right’s obsession with “proving” otherwise.

    BLAST FROM THE PAST

When Wendell Willkie was running against FDR in 1940,he was a little dizzy from a grueling whistle stop train tour.

He says—“I’m happy to be here in teh great metropolitan city of Chicago!”

An aide whispers to him that it isn’t Chicago, they’re in the suburb of Cicero.

And Willkie says—“This is Cicero?Okay, then to hell with Chicago!!”.The Democratic Machine didn’t like it.

Eh, at least half what conservatives said Billy Jeff did was forged from whole cloth, and had little basis in actual objective reality.

This is actually a good point. You cannot pretend to hold a higher ethical standard and yet use the “everybody’s doing it” excuse.

It was said that everyone left a meeting with President Clinton with the feeling that they had been heard and agreed with. Of course, the next day …

Charming guy who actually did get a lot done but had trouble admitting he couldn’t keep it in his pants.
