Excerpt from an interesting David Brin post on FaceBook:

Brin talks about that in the current context of BBB legislation.

I think he is on the right track and you should give it some consideration, Ted.

He goes on to talk about how LBJ was driven from office because of his fatal flaw, Viet Nam, which brought us… Nixon. No mention of Nixon/Kissinger’s sabotage, but still…

Both parties have — seemingly deliberately — lost the desire to find a common goal that can unite and strengthen the USA.

Let us get the slippery semantics correct: What is presently in danger — the metaphysical “Right” to vote, or the practical “Ability” to vote?

The endless loop—leftward spiral, really—of Democratic politics.

Isn’t it the Republicans that are voting against voter rights. Of course blaming Biden is easier I guess.

True.. the democrats will continue to fight right down to the last 2 democratic voters. The party is losing ground with each and every election, thwarted by republicans obstructing every positive movement.

Lying anti democracy republicans want to take away your vote and establish a right wing dictatorship that will last forever.

DC and Puerto Rico statehood should have been the first things on the to do list. Then perhaps a simper measure on cutting money in campaigns.

Oh yeah the “Democrats will help you” if you vote for them. Unfortunately even good intentions can do massive damage, as welfare did starting in the 1960’s with the “man in the house” regulation that contributed greatly to the destruction of poor and black family structure. At least that puts him one up on the republicans, who are doing their best to ensure our inability to vote.

Apparently we do need to keep fighting for our right to vote. Used to be, we were concerned that foreign enemies wanted to take it away from us… now we have domestic enemies who also want to take it away from us.

If people were truly serious about equality in voting results, gerrymandering e.g., as represented by the Illinois district maps would not be allowed.

So what are you advocating, Rall? That Republicans be allowed to get away with their scheme to hold power indefinitely regardless of the desires of the voters?

Democrats should stop fighting for your right to vote?

Good idea . . . . Let’s elect Republicans who want make working Americans serfs

The right to vote can never be taken for granted. It’s a never-ending struggle. The GQP has shown us that.

Check out “Piecework Politicians” by James Harman. By the way, AOC seems to get this.

And, as we perhaps all predicted, the Dims sold us out again, passing the Rrrrps’ works bill without any guarantee that the Rrrps will pass the eviscerated BBB bill.

Anyone who still believes the Dims aren’t elephants in donkey suits is too naive to be posting here. Or voting. Or being let out of the house without a minder and leash.

I always want my politicians to be vigilant over my right to vote. At anytime it could be quickly taken away. It’s the Sisyphean task in democracy.

Deliver the right to vote. Without it there will be no right to vote.

Or when the cartoonist has to comment on his own cartoon.

Not Quite A Token Department:

The Navy has named a new ship, the second in the John Lewis class, after the late Harvey Milk, once a Lt. (j.g.) who was forced out with a less-than-honorable General discharge because of his sexuality.

He was not a warmonger, so it’s fitting that the new ship is an “oiler”, a supply ship. (He served on a submarine-rescue ship).

Other ships in the class are being named for Sojourner Truth, Chief Justice Earl Warren, Robert F. Kennedy, and suffragist Lucy Stone. John Lewis himself got the first naming.

Lucy Stone was a good choice, but Lucy Parsons would have been a better one.
