This story arc is dumb.

Bernice, now you have something in common with Gunther — being ghosted.

Time for a break for Bern. Maybe somebody else will wander by and light her up.

One brief moment of happiness, when the colourist gets to show off in panel 2. Lovely. Now if there wasn’t that dialogue in Panels 1 and 3 to mess it up.

Yep. I think all of us have been there. Until we realize this internal dialogue is useless and being proactive is the better avenue.

“And Bern was heard to exclaim,”

Moments of sanity, and just bananas the rest of the time

Bernice: “My father picked me up from school one day and we played hookey and went to the beach. It was too cold to go in the water, so we sat on a blanket and ate pizza. When I got home, my sneakers were full of sand and I dumped it on my bedroom floor. I didn’t know the difference, I was six. My mother screamed at me for the mess, but dad wasn’t mad. He said that billions of years ago the world’s shifting and ocean moving brought that sand to that spot on the beach, and then I took it away. Every day he said we change the world. Which is a nice thought until I think about how many days and lifetimes I would need to bring a shoe full of sand home until there is no beach. Until it made a difference to anyone. Every day we change the world. But to change the world in a way that means anything that takes more time than most people have. it never happens all at once. Its slow. Its methodical. Its exhausting. We don’t all have the stomach for it. Ever since then, my bikini bottom has been full of sand. And that’s the reason I’m the crotchity little busybody I am. Probably the reason Nil ditched as well.”

Not really dumb, just showing Bernice’s insecurity in the big world outside of high school. I think that we hit the bottom with the sex crazed Steffie and her stud, Kip.

I feel like she’s totally lost

It’s nice to see that Bernice cares about Nil and is afraid he might leave her. This is totally at odds with the big amount of nastiness she said about him to Jack, but Bernice is a walking contradiction. BERNICE, CALL HIM!!!

Bernice, you did this to yourself.

Wow, No kissing!. No worries, Jack’s report to Nil about the encounter was not harmful.

Bernice’s mother got pregnant in college and give her baby brother up for adoption.

Alas Bernice has her own version of social and personal disappointment as Lu does.. Rather sad for the two main dharacters

Burn seems awful relieved Nik wasn’t coming. Sure changed by the last panel. Burn, better not let Nils see how you look in the last one.

Now someone I’d like to see about now is Tiffany. She’d pitch that pagoda tent for you an Nils right then and there.

She lusts after Jack, is relieved when Nil cancels their make-out session, and then starts her neurotic worrying about Nil avoiding her. Seems Bernice has developed amnesia to add to her nymphomania and insecurity syndromes. What’s next? An eating disorder? Cleptomania? Insomnia? Maybe if she develops all the neurosis symptoms described in her psych books she can claim to be educated on the subject. This is getting so incredibly tiresome. All they do is have their main characters stumble around in circles.

Who has money on: Nil saw and heard much of the conversation, and decided to bail. Doesn’t take a seemingly insecure guy like Nil to get jealous over your date fawning over someone else.

Being alone isn’t the worst thing in the world until you can find a better match. But the mind is an insane place which is full of self doubters and no self confidence.

Bernice is the reason I read this comic. Her storyline is going somewhere.

Lots of people overthink this strip,just like Bernice.

Bernice, just give it up.

Overthink and overanalyze everything. Most guys just say okay and go on.

“Later” is a salutation like goodbye, as in “see you later.” Not literally meant to mean he would be there later.

If that face in panel 3 is the face of anxiety, I think anxious folks are doomed… Don’t read too much into that.

There is NO SENSE in continuing a relationship with someone who has a crush on someone else, that is, not unless you don’t mind being the second choice. All they are doing is a re-run of the Gunther/Bets story with different characters. Boring.

Bernice is ashamed of having a sex drive. She really needs therapy to get over this.

Nil said “can’t make”. Does that mean “Can’t make it”, or does it mean “Can’t make out”?

It seems the mind(s) of the creator(s) have turned toward a gag-a-week format, lately. I.e., and interesting circumstance or set of circumstances playing out during the week, all top set up a gag on Saturday. And with no real resolution of the circumstance occurring during the weekdays. For example: Last week it was a serious discussion about stating a family which ended with a Shannon gag, with no resolution to the issue. Before that it was Bernice on a job search for Luann who showed disinterest until Bernice mentioned cost. and on, and on…

There’s nothing wrong with that. Except that nothing advances – which, apparently, so many of us seem to expect.

Just reply with an “OK” emoji. Then he can do the fretting.
