MLF is one of those “Everything that’s not explicitly allowed is forbidden” groups. The US constitution is the other way ‘round: Everything that’s not explicitly called out in the constitution is up to the states to handle.

I see this cartoon as a reference to the book burnings in Germany in the early Nazi era. I am possibly wrong on this, but I’m also surprised that no one else has thus far commented on this possibility.

—) One of the books that might give the group pause is the novel “Set This House on Fire,” by William Styron. Not only is the title apropos to the cartoon, but to our country at this time. The title is taken from one of John Donne’s epigraphs —

“His mercies hath applied His judgments, and hath shaked the house, this body, with agues and palsies, and set this house on fire with fevers and calentures, and frightened the master of the house, which is my soul, with horrors, and heavy apprehensions, and so made an entrance into me.”

And maybe the group would agree with Styron when he comments through one of his characters —

“What this country needs… what this great land of ours needs is something to happen to it. Something ferocious and tragic, like what happened to Jericho or the cities of the plain – something terrible I mean, son, so that when the people have been through hellfire and the crucible, and have suffered agony enough and grief, they’ll be people again, human beings, not a bunch of smug contented cows rooting at the trough."

That sounds similar to the message the far right-wing might hope for So, burn or not to burn? Whoops — it has sex scenes, so burn!

Like all well-funded GOP “grassroots” organizations …

The letter sounds passionate and personal.

It is motivated, the author explains, by a desire to “speak up for what is best for my kids.” And it fervently conveys the author’s feelings to school leaders: “I do not believe little kids should be forced to wear masks, and I urge you to adopt a policy that allows parental choice on this matter for the upcoming school year.”

But the heartfelt appeal is not the product of a grassroots groundswell. Rather, it is a template drafted and circulated this week within a conservative network built on the scaffolding of the Koch fortune and the largesse of other GOP megadonors.

Whiners who just can’t take the truth about American and world history protest to ban certain books! Just because they don’t like a line or the subject matter. What really kills me is schools, and libraries CAVE TO THESE IDIOTS!

If you don’t like it, don’t read it or buy it.

The most innocent books, novels and etc were taken off the shelves because one person whined about it.

Schools, libraries, and institutions need to GET A SPINE!

America has lost its backbone to the handful of protesters who don’t have a life. Just because their opinion differs, everyone must suffer.

banning and burning books in the US predates the Nazis, so no need to invoke them.

From Wikipedia: Book censorship in the United States

During the 1600s, a typical form of book censorship in the United States was book burning. In October 1650, William Pynchon’s pamphlet, The Meritorious Price of Our Redemption, was criticized and promptly burned by the Puritan government. This book burning in Boston, Massachusetts is often referred to and even considered the “first book burning in America”

Unfortunately, this sort of thing is no longer confined to the Right:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/20/us/dorian-abbot-mit.html

    https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/06/us/aclu-free-speech.html

As a participant in the Berkeley Free Speech Movement of the sixties, I still hold to the principles we fought for then. I was disappointed to hear at the 50th Reunion that some current activists no longer do, that freedom of speech (and inquiry) has fallen to political correctness.
