National Mole Day. I was wondering why they would have a day honoring those burrowing pests. It would be like having a National Flea and Tick Day (I hope there’s no such thing as THAT!). So I had to look it up. No. it isn’t about the little rodents. Here is what I found out: “National Mole Day recognizes a special number in chemistry. Chemists and chemistry students mark the occasion each year on October 23rd. More specifically, the celebrations take place between 6:02 AM and 6:02 PM. In the U.S., the time and date are written 6:02 10/23. The time and date are derived from Avogadro’s number. Avagadro’s number is approximately 6.02×10^23. Hence, defining the number of particles (atoms or molecules) in one mole of a substance, one of the seven base SI units. A mole is a unit of measurement used in chemistry to express amounts of a chemical substance. Avogadro’s number is a historical term closely related to the Avogadro constant. The Avogadro constant is named after the early 19th-century Italian scientist Amedeo Avogadro.”
Where is the fine print? Anyway, Annie should be comped. Yesterday’s drive home was one of the most spectacular days of my life! The ever changing sky and clouds would have been beautiful enough, but 200 miles of aspens, cottonwoods and rabbit brush had me constantly stopping to take it all in, 30-40 MPH winds and all. And the lakes all had a turquoise/greenish cast and were full of whitecaps, just gorgeous.
I remember a Gahan Wilson cartoon like that. One kid was selling an “Iced Drink” for 5¢ a glass. And around the corner another was selling “Iced Drink Antidote” for $25.00 a glass.
Didn’t Kool-aid advertise “a three-cent package makes two quarts…” Then moms had to explain to the budding entrepreneurs that they needed to factor in the four cups of sugar that were needed to make it drinkable…
That’s a very sneaky and very clever business plan. Of course, I’m surprised that Lily and Chesney are working together. On another note, saw a wren, two Juncos, and a raven while out walking today.
