Nah. Manchin doesn’t do any of those things.

He just opens the door for the Republican Party of Trump. And looks the other way.

    .

But you gotta admire his naivete in trying to work with those same Republicans*.

Manchin is to blame for a lot of the issues the democrats have had in getting any legislation passed but he is not alone and I do not just mean Senator Sinema. Over the weekend I was watching a program on CNN or MSNBC and the host was kind of crowing how Biden might actually be able to do something about filibuster reform and the guest, Susan Page, simply said he was throwing progressives a bone (nice way of saying lip service) as truth be told there are several moderate democrats in the senate who do not want to reform it and that Manchin and Sinema are simply more outspoken in their beliefs, as misguided as it is. While Manchin is perceived by many to be the big villain, he has company. I am personally disenchanted with Sinema as she did have her roots in the Green Party and environmental politics before she began this transformation to the far right like Jeane Kirkpatrick. Other democrats are against labor reform (as evidenced by Bernie only getting 40 votes for $15/hour), many are in bed with the banks (including banker Joe and his DE buddies in the Senate), others were for the Keystone pipeline (Tester) and so on.

And then we have the ugly pink elephant in the room, those pesky far right GOP’ers. They should change the name of their party to the obstructionists as their purpose is not to pass legislation but to block it. If anyone in that party had the stones to compromise one iota, well then perhaps the bill in question might already be a law.

I hold out hope for 2022, that the Democrats can get a better majority in the Senate by flipping a seat in Wisconsin where a nut job has held the seat for awhile and winning open seats in NC, OH and PA where repubba senators are retiring, as well as holding on to the seat won in GA. It will be tough but if Biden can get a net gain of 2 or 3, well then Manchin and Sinema become irrelevant and the quieter conservative opposition in the party may get in line.

I see a funny little Manchin

    In the News these days

Who’s helped stall Biden’s social plans

    In many diverse ways

    There’s prob’ly none’s not seen his face

It’s in all the news feed loops

    Along with Krysten Sinema’s —

    They’re Democratic Party poops!

Never let it be said that Joe Manchin wasn’t able to multitask. Working across the aisle with RepubliCONS and taking in coal money at the same time.

The eventual alternative to Joe Manchin will be a very, very, right-wing populist GQP Senator…………..West Virginia is another one of those states that very much should be voting Dem, but chooses to mire itself in dumb.

That’s unusual for a dem. Typically the pie would be taken and given to the rich donor neighbor, the cat would be preggers and the baby would have been killed before it was born. :-/

Actually, Joe M doesn’t care anything about babies, cats or apple pies, just reelection.

He works for big coal and maybe he thinks he’s doing the miners a favor. Coal mining is a dangerous job and sure as heck not good in the long run for one’s health.

Manchin is doing what he was elected to do, represent his constituents as best he can, and compromise when necessary. That is what the Democrats do. All of them. The squabbling was always there, now it’s in public due to 24/7 cable news. Gotta fill that time.

However, it is the Democrat’s fault that some Americans, including left-leaning media, don’t understand the Party. They’ve allowed conservatives to define them and have yet to fight back. Democrats govern as our Founders intended and legislated, by debate and compromise. Democrats should PROUDLY explain that fact, and explain that it is conservatives who walk in lock-step. conservatives fail to comprehend that it’s not “disarray” if it is by design. conservatives march in lock-step. Liberals hear all ideas, the entire ‘big tent’, conservative to socialist, then debate, measure and judge, compromise, then take the best of the lot to make the plan. Social Security, Medicare, the ACA, all done just that way. No one gets everything they want, but everyone gets something they want. That’s called democracy, as our Founders designed. That is what was to be by the very design of John Adams.

Coal is making electricity more expensive than mortgages in West Virginia: ‘It does feel wrong’

“Coal has become more expensive than renewables or natural gas, the prices of which have fallen rapidly — and in West Virginia, the ratepayers are footing the bill,” Nilsen reports. “With three of the state’s major coal-fired power plants in need of hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of mandatory upgrades, costs for ratepayers like Chase will continue to go up. Coal may be a dying industry in the U.S., but Joe Manchin, a key Democratic swing vote in the Senate, isn’t interested in hastening its demise.”

Chase, a registered Democrat, believes that she is by no means the only West Virginia resident who finds her utility bills to be a struggle during the winter months.

Chase told CNN, “It does feel wrong when your electric bill is more than your mortgage. Around here, the old adage is ‘coal keeps the lights on.’ Anyone struggling to keep their electric on knows it’s more than the lights…. If I’m struggling over here, I must be representative of hundreds, if not thousands, of West Virginians.”

Pelosi and Hoyer: just pretend the Dems are winning so that the people believe you and don’t get discouraged.
