Sorry, as a non-USA person, I’ve always wondered about this pledge. Is it normal to say this every day or this is something they used to do in the past?

The “Pledge” is akin to standing for the National Anthem. It’s a way of showing respect and faith for the country and the freedom associated with it. Unfortunately, as this story depicts, many of today’s citizens are more interested in the perceived easy life of socialism than the responsibilities of freedom. I think P. McCree Thornton said it best, “To those who have fought for it, freedom has a flavor that the protected will never know.”

We were just a whole bunch of little parrots reciting phrases that had no meaning, hence the pauses as we mentally queued up the next phrase.

Wonder how much of their lives it takes up: 10 x the number of school days x 8 school years? If I was any good at algebra, or knew how many school days I could work this out. Also need to factor in sick days, snow days, etc.

I was 7 when they added “under god.” I was furious. I’d just memorized it and could recite it flawlessly and then they changed the lyrics. It still makes me mad.

Giving away my age , but when we used to say it in school, the words “under God” had not yet been added by the Congress of the United States that forgot about the separation of Church and State part of our constitution.
