Exactly: this is why the GOP fought so hard to defeat a state constitutional amendment that passed by over 60% in the courts…..they have lost every single one.
Reminds me of a neighbor who kept trying to take some of my property. Of his many scams, he tried to redraw property lines on maps and even went down to the Deeds Office to demand that they honor his version of the maps… all that got him was escorted out by police…
Hmm… both sides have drawn ridiculous boundary maps. It only seems to be a problem when the losing party’s target demographic shifts it’s population base. But, of course that is one of the reasons both parties redraw whenever they are in back in charge. It is a never ending cacophony of opposing voices.
^^ When you can’t defend your side’s actions, resort to the “both sides” arguments, even though your side has gone through ridiculous measures to have 40% of the votes in a state result in 60% of the seats in the legislature.
The argument used in a leaked Texas GOP email was that Collin County was losing its white majority, and even after the leak, the GOP is staying with new redrawn district lines to bring in more whites.
In Oregon, the Republicans refused to work with the Dems, so the majority Dems just did the redistricting work. And the GOPists are furious and are suing. They have a tame “expert” who says that 5 of the 6 districts favor Democrats by “+25” (whatever that is) or more (the other one leans that hard the other way). The funny thing is: Oregon is strong-majority liberal no matter what order you count, so it would take an extreme amount of foofraw to find boundaries in which Republicans had an equal hand with Democrats. Simply laying out equal-population blocks with simple shapes WILL give the Democrats an edge, no matter where you put the boundaries.

One gerrymandered republican district in Texas is shaped like a doughnut.

Yes, that is EXACTLY how the Qpublicans use it!

Some Texas districts run down interstates for a few miles in order to put two neighborhoods in the same district.

Now explain it to the SCOTUS, they don’t seem to understand. Or maybe they do, very well.
