Bob Gorrell choses to see everything backwards so that he can continue to be extremely racist while believing that civil rights activists are the racists.
P.S. Dear, GoComics, please remove this racist cartoon. Or at least put some kind of condemnation disclaimer on it.
The GQPists at whom Gorrell aims this kind of guff believe that a college level analysis of what racism actually is and how it is manifesting is an indictment of everything good. This is a traditional racist ploy: Flip it so if YOU (the person who’s actually being harmed) try to do something about it, then YOU are the one who’s wrong, and the racist is the one being harmed. I will agree that if you’re a racist white person, then critical race theory DOES attack your situation. But you know what? You can change that. No black person can (or should) change the color of their skin.
Let’s continue to ignore how the color of a person’s skin has been reflected in laws, health care, housing, jobs which are slanted against them. Let’s instead, feel sorry for the poor white folk who are being denied what they’ve always enjoyed in this nation, advantages because of their skin color.
We need to teach a truthful history of our country. We have done some really good, great things. We have also done some bad things. The good news is that, usually, we do better when we know better. And BTW, Critical Race theory is taught in some law schools, and that’s all. Nobody has asked that it be taught in other schools. All that is asked is that we teach everything and not leave some things out.
So the little snowflake kkkonservatives need a safe space from their history? Aww, too bad. It is coming for you one way or another. Better get to your bunkers and cuddle your trump dolls.
Ideas should not be banned. They should be held up, examined, defended and/or criticized. CRT is a law school theory. It’s just another red herring. It was forth by Conservative activist Christopher Rufo who knew it would be red meat to the base. The only way to keep the votes (and money) coming in is to frighten the base. It joins Jade Helm, shariah law, Obama’s not American, etc. as the bogey man de jour.
Gorrell was born in the South in the 1950’s, so if he had been born black he would have attended inferior black schools and his father would have been denied any GI benefits such as VA housing loans and would have been lynched if he got too uppity by making more than minimum wage. In that case I bet he would not be so dismissive on generational wealth transfer whic is the base for CRT.
Where exactly is critical race theory being taught Gorrell? and what exactly do you think critical race theory is? Being taught that slavery happened and was bad, and even after slavery ended, racism against African Americans continued in various ways that continue to this day. Pretending everything was fine after the civil war is just delusional.
Imagine if people in Germany started demanding that German schools no longer teach about the Holocaust. Imagine if German TV news hosts started saying "Germany was never an anti-semitic country, and the Holocaust wasn’t that bad.
No Gorrell, that didn’t happen, because Germans have worked to atone for their past
“Decades later, some of the children and grandchildren of the postwar generation would insist that the nation own up to its deep shame. The actions that followed were called Vergangenheitsaufarbeitung, which translates to “working off the past.” The process was so widespread in the 1980s and 1990s that some don’t remember the entrenched, miserable resentment that preceded it.”
See there is part of an unidentified problem.. having 4 children. Fine in days of old when you expected all but two to survive to perpetuate the species.. but today they mostly all do and darn.. the world is getting full.
American Indians were brought to the brink of extinction. Blacks were enslaved for centuries. Mexicans were removed. Japanese were placed in concentration camps. We are worried teaching these things will make White people feel bad. Until we are willing to look at our wounds, we will never heal as a country.
The USA has been a racist country since it’s founding. It built racism into it’s institutions and it’s laws. Those are historical facts and to deny them is to deny reality.
My understanding of Critical Race Theory is basically that we are all racists. Like my mother used to say, “birds of a feather flock together.” We all tend to gravitate to our own kind. Rural folk like rural folk; townies like other townies. Blacks like blacks; whites like whites. It’s only by experiencing others who are different that we can grow beyond racism and become a people who can seek a common goal or idea. But, first we need to recognize the racist within.
How very strange. I would have said that Dr King’s sentiments were an early adumbration of Critical Race Theory. The presupposition that, as then current, persons were judged by the color of their skin is exactly what Critical Race Theory tries to investigate.
Gorrell, you are shameless. And I’m not talking about your racism, although I could be. I’m talking about your willingness to display absolute ignorance about a subject that you are too lazy to make the effort to understand.
King was talking about the situation that Critical Race Theory covers, that people were (and in some cases still are) judged by the color of their skin.
It appears from some comments here that many people misunderstand just what CRT is and where it’s being taught.
Simply stated, CRT is Marxism. ‘Classic’ Marxism preached that there were two classes: Bourgeoisie (capitalist oppressors) and Proletariat (oppressed workers). Marx said that the only cure was to destroy the capitalist system and equalize the outcome through redistribution of wealth.
Those who followed that dogma had great results: the people’s worker’s paradises of North Korea, Venezuela, Cuba and the former USSR. All equally poor, except for the leaders who live like kings.
Unfortunately for the Marxists, the theory never took hold here, largely because of our strong multi-racial middle class. So the American Marxists switched gears. Since the class argument never took off, they looked for an alternative. And they came up with CRT.
CRT has replaced class with race. CRT preaches that there are two races: White (oppressors) and Non-White (oppressed). It teaches that you can tell if someone is an oppressor simply by looking at their skin color, and that all white people are inherently racist oppressors and nothing can be done to change that. Consequently, the only way to defeat racism is through an anti-capitalist redistribution of wealth.
As far as Mr. Gorrell’s cartoon goes, he is exactly right. Proponents of CRT say quite simply that King was wrong, and that you can determine character by skin color. Moreover, CRT says you can ONLY determine character by skin color. CRT is quite simply racism pretending it’s non-racist. To believe in CRT, you must believe that some poor old white homeless guy is oppressing LeBron James and Oprah Winfrey.
As to where it’s being taught, it’s a myth to say it’s only in some law school courses. It’s being taught in certain school districts down to the elementary school level. Google ‘Loudoun County school district’ if you don’t believe that.
I hope this clears up any misunderstanding you may have had.
I wish to thank all those of you who liked and commented on my comments and replies on Oct. 5 on Dana Summers, Bob Gorrell, Al Goldwyn and Lisa Benson. We rational conservatives are constantly being distracted by the leftist who invade our comics with crazy “shit posts”. These “post” are hateful and have no basis in fact or reason. These leftist post comments that are meant to create a hostile response from the conservative community. Ignore the idiots on the left!
