That’s just one worm in the can full. Yes, society should decide what subjects are taught. And parents are part of society. But should they have more say than their childless neighbor or their own parents? More than experts on the subject material? Should schools be required to teach that the biblical flood was real? That humans and dinosaurs coexisted? Because there are quite a few parents who would push that. Should they be required to teach that “no means no” and how to use a condom? Because my friends and I think those things are very important.
I think McAuliffe was telling it exactly as it should be… but I think it was, politically, a pretty dumb move.
There are three parts to education: school (teachers, administration, etc.), parents and students. Parents are the worst part of that as long as they take a heavy hand in education. Parents use the schools as free day care. Parents interfere in education by trying to dictate what should be taught. Parents get frustrated when they don’t understand what or how they’re children are being taught. Parents are the problems when they blame the teacher and the school for the paren’t inability to raise and discipline their children. Parents are the weakest link in that chain.
In the Alternate universe, only parents determine what their children should know, and no child can ever be smarter than the parent, which is why Idiocracy is a documentary in his universe, instead a stupid movie about dumber people (or a guide for the Last Occupant’s followers).
Parents are the problem, the cause, and the solution. As are teachers, and administrators. Politics are simply a problem. Alternate reality and beliefs over science and cognitive thinking, hugh problem. Solution??
Not one comment about a child’s parenting, home and religious environment being the keys to there desire to participate and learn in a school environment. Most if not all leftist comments place the parents last if not absent in a government run school system. This idea is flawed beyond repair. A child needs a loving and healthy home environment. The formative years pre school parenting will teach a child behavior and social lessons that will be his foundation throughout his life. Taking (good) parents out of the schooling equation is a foolish if not dangerous idea. School systems can not deal with children from broken or flawed parenting homes now. And to say good parenting should not be taken into account is ridiculous .
It really is terrible. For decades, parents were urged to get involved with their kids schooling, but when they do finally do so, it’s to keep their kids unsafe against Covid. As Charlie Brown would say, good grief. But, we do see a few fathers out there that teach their kids to wear the mask to help others stay safe against Covid.

Yeah, A.I., the only ones who are supposed to control the education system are the RNC.

Ignore parents? They speak with the rest of the community in voting for school boards and governors.
The majority speaks louder than a loud, rude. Irrational minority.

Becoming a parent doesn’t automatically grant one the understanding of how a good education system works.

Al, if you are one of those parents then I would want the schools to be protected from you.

Education is always the first target of anyone who wants to stop progress.

Free the teachers and parents of the Woke administrators. Keep the child molesting and grooming leftist out of the classroom.

If their parents are so smart, they should home school their kids.
