Oh and here I thought we were close, but I am in the “W’s” of the word states.

It’s impressive that Calvin has studied an atlas, most kids when asked to identify the locations of other countries usually put them in the silliest of places and not always as countries. Sigh.

Comics can be (not always) the most pertinent commentary on contemporary society. They deserve the comments of the readers. I get a lot out of some comments.

Judging from the swirling clouds in panel 2 it looks like typhoon season in the lower latitudes. Hope they don’t run into turbulence after reentry. Actually, hope they get through reentry. Hobbs might get his fur singed.

Can’t even call Houston… Calvin forgot the radio. Maybe they spend a week globe trotting in their wagon until they get home.

I bet there’s more than one purple country in the atlas – er, world. If he gets the wrong one, he’ll have to spend another whole week trying to get home!

I wonder if they’ll end up in the right place. Remember Mom probably has dinner ready. I hope it’s not that green slop he hates so much.

lol - me too. I was disappointed when there was no think black line, just a road sign saying “Now entering Oklahoma” Hope C&H can find the right ‘box’ to land in.

On my map that would put Calvin in Nebraska.

You can tell that this is an old comic because the United States is still a nice blended shade of PURPLE. Since then, the purple has fractured into REDs and BLUEs.

I miss PURPLE.

I’m wondering how he is going to explain this to his mom as to where he’s been this time.

Not just kids…even adults place Rome in Venezuela. I’ve heard that in the US, the majority of people can’t identify “England” on a map of the world – because it’s been renamed the “UK”. Geography should be a required high school class again.

In my Atlas, Elbonia is also purple. Hope you brought turbans, guys. Lower Slobbovia, is purple, too. Fortunately, Hobbes has a fur coat.

Another comic with plenty of comments is Big Top.

“A picture is worth a thousand words”. Sometimes a few words are worth little or nothing. It depends on the content, and how the words are written. Cogent Modality counts for much. By the way, I like that name. “There’s Something About that Name.”
