Hey, scheisse happens!! That’s why it’s called the fogofwar!! And intel is never 100% accurate!!! If it was, there would be no war in the first place!!
This was—is— always the problem with air war. Despite the military’s assurances, it is never close to entirely accurate. The “accidents” cost lives and radicalize the survivors. Wouldn’t you avenge your family against a seemingly arrogant, callous, self-righteous power?
ISIS members or Afghanistan civilians they look the same talk the same live in the same neighborhood and houses or apartment buildings. ISIS uses family members, women and children for cover. Woman and children carry weapons and explosives for the men. Is it no wonder civilians are reported killed or wounded. It took us 20 years and a lot of lives to find out we couldn’t win.
The airstrike was a tragedy. The Biden administration has recognized this. How many civilians died in the 20thC. during wars? I wonder if the critics of this latest tragedy are now rethinking their position vis a vis those events? You know, to stay morally consistent.
And we all know that trump would have taken responsibility and owned up to something if it were a mistake on his part. Ask any of the people that had a fatal case of covid,, oh wait, they’re dead
While it doesn’t negate the horror of accidentally killing innocent civilians (and aid workers at that), keep in mind that the X-45 administration would have covered up their mistake, lied about it if exposed, and fired or threatened those who pointed out what really happened. Biden’s administration has admitted the mistake and is now stoically enduring the face-ripping by hypocritical Qpublicans, plus whatever grief they may personally feel about the error.
The whole damn war was a mistake, though I guess you could make an argument about hindering ISIL. It’s no surprise that remote killing fails to get the intended target: It’s entirely dependent on timely and accurate intelligence, which we have NEVER had enough of in this theater. And it’s somehow fitting that the US left on an unforced error, as it entered.

And here at home we’re thinking, “With friends like US domestic terrorists, who needs enemies?”

Interesting. Now the right is suddenly concerned about civilian casualties.

In every war there have been cases of varying degrees of ‘friendly fire’. That’s just the way it is.

We all remember that Goodwyn has complained constantly about America’s drone attacks against suspected terrorists — oh, the immorality of it all! /S
