Seems to be about 29% opposed to 71% in favor with very few holdouts (I’m making this up from what I see online, so adjust the numbers to your own taste). Me: I’m in the majority. I think he did what his sworn oath said to do: Protect the nation from enemies foreign AND domestic. For a slightly larger meaning of “enemy” that includes “insane and powerful”.
It used to be, years ago, in movies about such situations it was the nation’s rogue generals that posed a threat to peace. (“Dr. Strangelove,” “Seven Days In May”) Now it turns out the U.S. President is actually the bad guy, a General the hero.
This is a craven new world in which North Korea mocks us with its nuclear missiles, our Western forests burn, a viral pandemic kills millions, and it’s politically advantageous to be an a—hole.
Constraining the president to his role of being a public servant to all citizens — when the president’s lust for power and vanity lead him astray — is a difficult thankless job, … so thank you very much for doing it.
Why would he Resign for doing THE RIGHT THING???? Of course, few Qpublicans have ANY CONCEPT of doing “The Right Thing”. THEY just know about Doing "The RIGHTWINGNUT Thing!!!
A call for resignation from the termites who supported the greatest danger to Constitutional democracy through two impeachments and continue to excuse his traitorous actions. Please ignore.
I agree with what Milley did. I also think that in the wake of bipartisan criticism, the smart thing for Milley to do is to retire. That’s what Washington did after the Revolution.
Gen.Milley verified what I’d always believed and hoped concerning the what ifs of Trump’s erratic behavior. I hope there are more Gen.Milley’s out there to prevent a catastrophe like Trump from taking us to an all out nuclear war. Thankyou, Gen.Milley.
I agree he did the right thing by calling to reassure the Chinese military and keep things calm. I do have a problem with his promise to let them know if we were going to attack.
The picture shows one angry knee-jerk call on a pile of grateful ones. I know which one’s going to be on the front page of the NYT and WP. Good old Liberal Media!
Extraordinary measures need to be taken when normal safeguards that are in place fail because of insane GQP political cult and a unhinged, self absorbed lunatic becomes more unstable with each passing day.
McConnell worked behind the scenes with Biden to keep ‘irrational’ Trump from creating more chaos: Woodward book
The report adds, “To keep things under wraps, McConnell reached out to GOP Sen. John Cornyn of Texas to speak privately with Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware, a Biden confidant, about a ‘back channel’ for the then-majority leader to have a level of communication with the president-elect. Cornyn said that the senators were ‘in a delicate situation’ since Trump may have assumed that the men were ‘cutting a deal behind his back to cut him out,’ which would make him ‘even more irrational.’”
‘He thinks it was a great day’: ABC reporter’s new book reveals how Trump still celebrates Jan. 6
“I was absolutely dumbfounded at how fondly he looks back Jan. 6.”
“He thinks it was a great day,” he noted. “He thinks it was one of the greatest days of his time in politics. Now, he doesn’t necessarily say that because of the storming of the Capitol. He has this sense that this was like the biggest crowd he’d ever seen.”
Karl added: “But, look, he sees that incredibly fondly and his hold on the Republican Party has been far more resilient than I thought it would be.”
Brian Beutler explains why Republican elites are deliberately anti-vaxx – and more.
He looks at Republicans pushing anti-vaxx policies and concludes that the whole point of the exercise is to make Biden and the Democrats fail at controlling the pandemic. Quite simply, it’s more important for them to make Democrats lose than it is for America to win. Pick any issue and that’s what their dynamic is.
To grasp that Republicans encouraged COVID spread to harm Biden, you don’t have to believe, in a conspiracy-addled way, that they convened in secret and built a playbook for maximizing infections. You simply need to observe that a critical mass of conservative elites view undercutting Biden and Democrats as a political lodestar, and make immensely consequential governing and broadcast decisions on that basis alone. They inhabit a political culture that embraces and even prizes bad faith as a means to acquiring power. I wrote about this value system, and what to do about it, before the election, and believe it remains the cardinal fact of American politics.
It was a republican senate that confirmed him to be Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. If only they had done as good a job with the Supreme Court. On the other hand, I can think of one other famous officer that went around civilian control of the military, Oliver North.
I hope that some GQP RepubliCONS realize they may be now past the point of NO RETURN to serve again in the Congress. Wish them the “best” after losing re-election and looking for work. Mar-A-Largo is looking for housekeepers and dishwashers. No experience required. . . Republicans preferred. Blue Dog Democrats need not apply.
I’m not one calling for his resignation. I believe he perhaps was staring down at Armageddon with Trump on the trigger and at least was humane enough to warn China perhaps not so the Russians.

Lt. Col. Vindeman USA (ret.) has an opinion piece over at the Washington Post on the topic.
He says that Milley should resign because he violated the principle of civilian control of the military.
It’s a good read, and yes he’s that Vindeman.
