It might be true that Elder drove away some of the folks who might otherwise have voted to remove Newsom. But I doubt it was very many. IMO, most of Newsom’s votes came from folks who were going to vote that way unless the sky fell.

Larry Elder was the best thing that could have happened to Governor Gavin Newsom. He turned the race from an up-or-down yes-or-no vote on Newsom into a Democrat versus TRUMP state in a state where even many Republicans find Trump to be the gross, repulsive blowhard that he is.

Larry Elder is not merely a clone of Trump, he is Trump on steroids. He called for the complete elimination of any minimum wage laws. He is opposed to any abortion rights for women in a state where even many Republicans are pro-choice. He actually said that SLAVE OWNERS should have been paid REPARATIONS for the loss of their “property” when slavery was outlawed. And in a state where we lead the world in science, technology, biomedical research and where we have a high vaccination rate, Larry Elder called for complete repeal of all mask, vaccine and other anti-COVID public safety measures that have kept our state safe (except for high concentrations of COVID in the rural counties where Trump support remains high).

All Newsom had to do was to call attention to Elder’s own statements, and show the differences in outcomes in California (other than a few rebel areas) compared to Texas and Florida, and warn (truthfully) that it is a matter of life and death and women’s rights.

Many Democrats who are happy and content and complacent had not intended to vote, and Republicans were counting on low Democratic turnout. But Elder put the fear of whatever deity they believe in into them, shook ’em up, and was the best get-out-the-vote energizer Democrats could have had.

And for those who think Democrats have ruined the economy (notwithstanding Bloomberg ranking California #1 in economic prosperity), exit polls for same-day voting (where Republicans who don’t trust early and mail voting were best represented) showed that Californians believe overwhelmingly that our economy is doing well.

So much for the myths about California from those elsewhere who know nothing about our state.

Yes, Trumpism attracts/infects 40% of the electorate.

No, Republicans, 40% is not a majority.

    But go right on ahead.

No one with a working brain wants to return to Trumpism in elected office.

Do we know how much of an elder Elder actually IS? As completely insane as California’s recall rules are, I have to wonder if Elder took part in writing the damn things…..

I’m not sure I get this one. Why should any Democrat listen to a dipsh!t republican, much less one who is a radio host, for anything?
