Good one. The other difference is that one of them PRETENDS to be a US patriot. While carrying that flag, of course.

January 6 — with guys carrying the KKKonfederate flag (a flag that never made it into the Capitol even during the Civil War, but now also accompanied by Nazi swastika flags… literally two flags of treason crushed by REAL AMERICANS — was just a continuation of terrorists attacking the United States, trying to finish the job that was begun on September 11, this time an inside job by DOMESTIC terrorists.

September 11 was a three-pronged attack against American life:

Our Economy: Two aircraft struck the World Trade Center in an attack against a potent symbol of our economy, but the Twin Towers represented only a tiny fraction of our whole economy.

Our Military: The third plane hit the Pentagon — an attack on our military, but it is heavily, heavily fortified and, in any case, like our economy, is widely dispersed at bases around the nation and the world.

Our Federal Government: The Fourth Plane — the one that heroic passengers brought down at Shanksville, Pennsylvania — was aimed by conservative religious terrorists at the United States Capitol building. Both houses of congress were in session that fall Tuesday.

The U.S. Capitol, with both houses of congress in session, was a heavily-concentrated center of government, with the Supreme Court building less than 300 feet away and the White House just a couple of miles down Pennsylvania Avenue. As January 6 demonstrated, the Capitol building, open to the public and NOT heavily fortified, was a very vulnerable target. This was their “Reichstag moment,” but unlike for Hitler they failed. (Or maybe it is their Munich beer putsch moment, when they first failed but came back ten years later to succeed?)

If the conservative religious terrorists had succeeded on 9/11 in crashing a plane into the Capitol, with both houses in session, it would have been a major blow to the Federal Government of the United States.

We came even closer on 1/6.

The difference is that Bin Laden killed 3,000 people, the rioters milled around for a while after the police got stern, then went home.

“Conservative Religious Terrorists”. Seems like a contradiction of terms, it would have been, at one time, but now religionists are quite happy to plant bombs and kill people. For ‘god’, they claim, and that is supposed to make it ok.

Sept. 18… I’d like to see a bunch of fat, drunk Duck Hunters and TREASONOUS COWARDS like the “Proud Girlz” and other “Militias” facing off against the 82nd. Airborne and a few helicopter gunships and A-10s… you could track them back to their hidy holes by the trails of poop they would leave after they CRAP THEMSELVES facing A REAL ARMY who will FIGHT BACK!

The target of Flight 93 was the White House, not the Capitol. This was a world-wide theatrical event, and the Capitol does not have nearly the symbolic power or near-universal recognition that the W.H. has.

Simply because the mob of traitors (incited by the head traitor, one Donald John Trump) had no real chance of overturning our democracy (at least on that day…..) doesn’t mean that that wasn’t what they were there to do. Would they have killed Mike Pence (or Moscow Mitch or Leningrad Lindsey or McCarthy or Cruz or Hawley) if they had gotten their hands on them? (Leaving out the Democrats for the moment.) At least SOME in that mob of traitors without question would have. And Traitor Trump wouldn’t have cared the tenth part of a damn, simply because none of them are HIM. For that matter, had MILLIONS died of Covid, yet Trump was elected, Trump wouldn’t have cared about that, either. None of them are him, either, you see.

I hope the National Guard is out in force when the traitors gather to protest the arrests of their fellow traitors. (I wonder if the trolls up above even know that many of the insurrectionists have already plea-bargained? To paraphrase Colbert: “What did the trolls know, and when did they know it? Not much, and all the time.”)

Milley feared Trump was suffering ‘serious mental decline’ and secretly took action to prevent him from launching nuclear strike

“You never know what a president’s trigger point is,” Milley told his senior staff.

Milley, the nation’s top general, feared Trump would “go rogue,” and he “was certain that Trump had gone into a serious mental decline in the aftermath of the election,” Woodward and Costa wrote.

Milley took the dramatic step following a phone call with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in which she pushed back after he tried to assure her the nation’s nuclear weapons were safe.

“What I’m saying to you is that if they couldn’t even stop him from an assault on the Capitol, who even knows what else he may do?” Pelosi said, according to a transcript of the call obtained by Woodward and Costa. “And is there anybody in charge at the White House who was doing anything but kissing his fat butt all over this? You know he’s crazy. He’s been crazy for a long time.”

Milley responded by saying he agreed with Pelosi “on everything,” before getting off the phone and telling other top officials — including the CIA director and the National Security Agency chief — to “aggressively watch everything, 360.”

Never reply to the nasty Turd Reich trolls. They only do it to aggravate. They never post facts and/or sources, only lies, disinformation, and deflection. They only post to try and control the site – just like Rethuglicans who shout down anything and everything in Congress so nothing but their limited agenda gets done. It’s an age old tactic Josef Goebbels used in the 30’s.

‘Absolutely terrifying’: CNN’s Jake Tapper reacts in horror to new revelations about Trump and Capitol riots

“December 30th — when Trump is down in Mar-a-Lago, Steve Bannon’s in Washington — and Trump is complaining that the Republicans aren’t doing enough for his effort,” Gangel said. “And Bannon says to him… ’You’ve got to return to Washington right now, you’ve got to make a dramatic return.”

Gangel went on to explain Bannon’s thinking behind getting Trump to rail against the election results in front of his most rabid supporters on January 6th.

“[Bannon] calls January 6th a moment for reckoning, and then he goes even further,” Gangel said. “This is about Bannon on Biden, and he says… ’We’re going to bury Biden on January 6th, effing bury him.’ This was, it sounds like from Woodward and Costa, that Bannon saw this as a moment to undermine Biden’s legitimacy, and he goes on, according to the book, Bannon says, ’We’re going to kill it in the crib, kill the Biden presidency in the crib.’”

That is just absolutely terrifying," Tapper replied.

George Will reveals the disturbing reason why Trump’s GOP turned against conservatives

“There is no place for conservatism in the Republican Party right now because we have an absolutely unique situation,” Will said. “We have a Republican Party who are — they won’t say this — are frightened of their voters, and because they’re frightened of them, they don’t much like them. Because they don’t like them, they don’t respect them. It’s a very tension-ridden relationship between the Republican’s elected officials and the Republican base. Until the Republican Party gets back to something like the principles that made it a vibrant force in the ’80s and ’90s, conservatives are, as I say, orphans.”

Milley disclosures about Trump raise alarm — and criticism

Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was so concerned about President Donald Trump’s mental health in the final months of his administration that he placed secret calls to a top Chinese general to assure him that the United States would not launch a nuclear attack against Beijing, according to a new book by the Washington Post’s Bob Woodward and Robert Costa.

“General Li, I want to assure you that the American government is stable and everything is going to be OK,” Milley told Gen. Li Zuocheng four days before the 2020 election, according to the book. “We are not going to attack or conduct any kinetic operations against you."

The call, according to the book, was prompted by intelligence indicating that China was worried about a U.S. attack, which stemmed in part from Trump’s bellicose rhetoric. “General Li, you and I have known each other for now five years. If we’re going to attack, I’m going to call you ahead of time. It’s not going to be a surprise,” Milley told his Chinese counterpart.

That extraordinary revelation, which is contained in the forthcoming book “Peril,” has sharpened the focus on Trump’s behavior during his final months in office, as he waged an unsuccessful campaign to contest the results of the 2020 presidential election.

The book includes a transcript, for instance, of a Jan. 8 call between Milley and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“He’s crazy. You know he’s crazy,” Pelosi told Milley, discussing Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the election, culminating with the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol by his supporters, who sought to block the certification of the Electoral College vote. “He’s crazy, and what he did yesterday is further evidence of his craziness.”

“I agree with you on everything,” Milley responded, according to the transcript of the call.

I wouldn’t use either as an analogy for the other. Like comparing brussel sprouts and lizards. Both green, but the similarities end there. Or do they?
