If you’re going to buy that many of them, then you might as well grow them yourself!

Who knows. Janis may end up having the most sincere pumpkin patch around.

With her sarcastic reply, Janis squashed that idea.

I did that last year, along with beets and tomatoes. Why grow something that won’t be eaten.

Use weighted plastic pumpkins that you can reuse every year. They come in all sorts of sizes and colors.

That look in her eye in the last panel is because she OD’d on Pumpkin Spice.

We will eventually have a Nikita’s Gift persimmon by the entryway. It will have little orange pumpkin-shaped fruits that don’t ripen until late Fall after the leaves have dropped.

Why not? You already own the seeds. Roast some, plant some.

For the last five years, I’ve planted squash in the compost pile, and the things have taken over the garden. Didn’t do that this year. However, I had a volunteer grow in the squash pile this year, and one plant took over the garden. Have about two dozen squashes from one plant.I have no idea why I wrote all that in a comic comment, but it’s not a frothing-at-the-mouth political venting, so who cares?

My Mom once made pumpkin pie from pumpkins. They were OK but she said it was a hell of a lot easier to just go buy a can.

Did that one year. Vines grew up the pine tree beside the flower bed. My wife did not appreciate the humor of pumpkins hanging from the tree.

I let my kids set some pumpkins next to the mail box a few years ago. We still get pumpkin vines growing around it every spring. I bought some assorted small gourds this year so the garden will have more variety in the future. And we have melons of various types coming up net to the chicken pen from food scraps.

Why plant them in the flower garden? Why not plant them near the front door?

The squirrels did that for us this year…monstrous plant 10 feet long in the flower bed…and we didn’t know what it was going to be until a squash started to grow in August.

As long as there’s no pumpkin spice, negligible (one cupcake size only) pumpkin pies and no pumpkin soup
