9-11 was an ATTACK. The virus is a PANDEMIC. A whole different thing. This is worse in terms of death toll… but at least for me, less of a personal shock.
In 9-11 we had a common enemy – terrorists – we got the conservatives to get on board by calling them Islamic terrorists.
With the pandemic, we had a propaganda machine in place that downplayed its tragic consequences. However the machine’s effort to place the blame and hate was too divided: it was the Chinese, the Democrats, the scientists, the Jewish Space Laser …
Only if you would have attacked the source with bombs instead of rhetoric. Without a nation to blame.. and get the military involved, local events like April 19, 1995 when the Oklahoma bomber Timothy McVeigh took down the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building soon fade.
We remember a single day of 2001 and mourn those we lost; lost to a heinous act of terrorism, lost in acts of heroism in the aftermath. We will remember 2020 as the year in which we mourned more than half a million Americans lost to a heinous inaction of American leadership which placed rhetoric over public health.

If only it would have united us like 2001, but it drove us apart and that is so sad

Why do so many forget the price of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and Afghanis for the less that three thousand Americans.
