My recently deceased wife was a pet groomer since 1989 and our animals always gave a quick sniff and all was good. They “knew” she still loved them.

A bit off topic, but I was on a city bus yesterday when a Guide Dog instructor boarded with her trainee, a gorgeous male yellow lab. She used a very soft voice and it seemed some leg commands, he fell asleep on her foot. The test was when we stopped by a high school, kids piled on the bus, he passed with flying colors, not distracted. The instructor then told the driver they were headed to another bus, one that takes people to a car park. What an absolutely wonderful relationship humans have with these marvelous canines!

They are amazing animals. My eldest daughter raised a German Shepard for Leader Dogs, in MI. That was her 4-H project that year…the dogs are super,,need “basic” training, how to be a dog and behave,,,then, at approx 1 yr. of age, to the the school for the Pros to do the finish, and critical work of turning that dog into a highly trained specialist..in leading the blind person he will be assigned to as long as either lives..and he is capable of doing his job,,,and is still needed by “his” person. It’s an amazing thing that the dogs learn, do, how the behave, and basics that go into it all.
