In Bosnia I still don’t see girls playing basketball in the open (just in school and professionally) and among old people playing chess in the open there are no old women playing with them… so I feel like that grandma generation although I’m almost 40 years old…. society makes us so confined without a single word – it will probably change soon, but not soon enough for me…
Nobody actually lived through that version of the 50s. It’s just the way some people remember it. There have always been “tomboys” who wore what they like and helped out with hard work. I enjoyed being around those young women far more than the ones involved only in “fashion” and “gossip”.
Mom was born in N.Ireland, 1923; She talked about swinging from the lamp posts with a rope that had to be taken down before the lamp lighter came around, or they would lose their rope!

This must be an older comic. I’m glad the Grandmother was later rewritten to be adventurous and fun.

In the last frame it looks like Evie is looking on with a smile. Perhaps glad that things are better than when she was a girl.

Gramma can’t remember terrorizing the boys when she was a kid.

I like strips where the characters evolve over time. Strips that don’t do that are a bore.

I expected to see gramma join them in the last panel.

At least Holly loves playing basketball. Kids need activities not sitting around.

Well, this was ancient. Nowadays kids don’t get dirty anymore. They spend their days indoors on their phones or tablets.
