We, the USA have never been any good at “nation building”. Those who do know history are doomed to watch in horror as the ones who don’t get us into yet another easily predictable mess.
The best way to build other nations is to get ours back in order. The USA needs to get back to leading by example. As long as we have crazy Qanon believing Republicans and Trumpers, with their terrorist backers, Proud Boys, Oath keepers, Boogaloos, KKK, Incel cry babies, etc. We really aren’t setting the best example of what a great nation looks like.
AGAIN… you can win a war against a Government, or an Army, but you CANNOT WIN A WAR AGAINST AN IDEOLOGY! You would have thought that Darth Cheney and his puppet-boy shrub would have realized that after seeing the Russian Fiasco in Afghanistan… BUT NO!!! Cheney needed a war to increase the value of HIS HALLIBURTON STOCK HOLDINGS!!!
I’ve read some old stuff that said our real motivation for getting into Afghanistan in the first place was to make it safe for an oil pipeline. It will be interesting to see if one gets built there and by who in the next few years
Does not every nation have the right to control “their” values? Not nearly to the same extreme but… republicans are doing what they can to control “American” values. The Taliban use force.. the republicans, the courts.. to keep the black and brown Americans out.. or at least marginalized in the shadows.
Unfortunately, eventually we will probably be back once the outcries are loud and long enough… and politicians find it politically gainful while the military industrial complex chomps at the bit…
There is a correlation between a country’s prosperity and its willingness (or eagerness) to positively utilize all of the energies and talents of its population… but when leaders only want everything for themselves they create suppression and poverty…
The Taliban has also banned music. That’s almost hard to comprehend, especially considering that music has been around about as long as the human race. They are doomed to fail.
“It’s the unspoken truth of humanity that you crave subjugation. The bright lure of freedom diminishes your life’s joy in a mad scramble for power. For identity. You were made to be ruled. In the end, you will always kneel.”——Loki, ‘The Avengers’ movie.
Oh, we did okay in Japan and Germany. But we no longer drink from the skulls of our enemies. If we are going to war it should be all out, Either the enemy surrenders or dies – period. No half measures and worrying about what the UN will say. Kill all the Taliban. Let Satan sort them out.
We’ve ruined more countries doing business with them. But the whole notion of making a country safe for capitalism is easily 100 years old. There is a good quote about it from Smedley Butler, a Marine General.

Maybe we should have trained and equipped an army of women. The men proved useless.
