The Afghanis had 20 years (and quite a bit of money) to do something to make things better. They didn’t. I really do feel sorry for the various folks who are going to be raped, killed, held out of school, taught to fear… you get it. Sorry, but not guilty.
I noticed that Ted Rall colored the burqas of Afghan women as blue. I thought burqas were uniformly black across conservative Muslim cultures. I wasn’t paying attention to the details concerning that traditional form of dress, it seems. The below link provides some interesting information from the point of view of certain women wearers (although I doubt it will motivate most Western women to take up the fashion.)
Spot on!!! What % of the American population did not and still does not know, care, consider what has occurred and is occurring there? Outside of the echo chambers of both sides, does the tragedy for the people of Afghanistan resonate with the average American?
‘Cruelty toward the powerless’: DC insider nails the new Republican Supreme Court
The U.S. Supreme Court won’t block a Texas law that allows private individuals to sue to enforce a ban on abortion after about six weeks of pregnancy – before many women are even aware they’re pregnant. The law went into effect Wednesday, September 1.
S now when I hear unsupported conservative blather, I have 2 responses: Trump, in instances of personal attacks on elected officials, and Texas. Remember they only rolled the abortion ban out to distract from their stealing their citizens’ right to vote. vote.
Ted should check his facts. During the US occupation of Afghanistan, the women were not required to wear the burka. So, his second panel is incorrect. And the jury is still out on this issue on the required burka wearing during the new Taliban control of their country.
While not a perfect place by far, Afghanistan during the last 20 years improved the rights and conditions for women every passing year. More and more schools, fewer and fewer attacks on women for just being free. Jobs for women. Women in elective office.
The handmaiden of the SUPREME COURT and her CONservative rebumblican handlers are working feverishly at getting the shackles back where they belong on the minds and freedoms of the American women. The sad thing is how many women are gungho in helping the men enslave them.
Actually during the US involvement in Afghanistan, women enjoyed more freedoms, including not having to where the full face covering, being able to leave home without a mal escort, being able to go to school and being able to work. While women during that period didn’t enjoy the same freedoms as women in western countries it was much better than during the Taliban rule and it appears to be reverting.

Wow, Theodore. That’s an unusually reality-based cartoon today. Now pay attention to Ya’ll Qaeda in Texas.
