I grew up going to the beach on the upper Texas Gulf coast, and I remember dodging tar balls way back in the ’70’s. There was always some rig leaking just off of the coast. We didn’t really get oil slicks. The oil would wash in off of the bottom as balls of tar from about marble-sized up to about the size of a softball, and were about the consistency of playdough. Once stepped on, it became a semi-permanent part of the bottom of your foot.

The Oil leak caused by the Hurricane is supposedly “Fixed”, but no one has said much about cleaning up the mess.
