Didja see the one about the young woman whose country decided not to fund skateboarding to the Olympics. She raised enough money to go anyway… and got the gold medal !
This makes me wonder if Breen isn’t the old guy in the neighborhood who keeps the balls that land in his yard when kids on his street are playing and he won’t give them back because he’s so spiteful – if he can’t have fun, nobody else should no matter why he’s upset. Just because some of the sports don’t appeal to everyone is not a reason to assume they are not extremely competitive and demanding sports. If they were anybody could perform at that level. They have not replaced the main sports but have brought new interest to the games (all of the games benefit with more viewers). It seems this is another case of “But I only want to see the sports that I want in the Olympics” and disregards the decline in interest for the games over the past decade or so. By Breen’s apparent logic if this was popular music we’d all be listening to polkas on Lawrence Welk and have little choice for anything else. If you don’t care for, don’t watch it. But at least give it a try and more importantly let other people have their choices too. Last I knew for at least a little while longer anyway, this is still the USA. The games have certainly had a wide range of personal stories too. All of that makes they Olympic games what they should be.
They should go back to having everyone naked at the Olympics. None of the women could complain about clothing impositions. They could then prove that they are proud of their bodies no matter how fat they might be (think weight lifters and discus throwers!). The sponsors would be happy because they would get the largest audience in the history of television. The viewers would save miilions on porn! And there would be a gold medal for everyone brave enough to compete!
While I do enjoy the Olympic Games, watching NBC spin in the wind is entertaining as well. Congratulations to all the Athleates…except the 11th place Women’s Hammer Thrower that is.
i have often wondered…olympic swimmers swim literely thousands and thousands of miles…daily…weekly..monthly…and fine tune their turns and form in the water….a 14 year old slides down a rail on her skate board..falls…does it again..falls..does it again and sorta makes the landing..and gets a bronze medel….
what must the swimmer think of the comparative effort and practice time….( i’m just sayin’……)

The Olympics have become a business, and the IOC are businessmen, anxious to keep the interest up, and the money coming in. The end.

Congratulations to the Canadian Women’s Soccer team who won gold.
And every last one of them was woke. So much for THAT theory.

I’m still stymied by 10M air rifles. Wonder how Davy Crocket would’ve fared…
