1: The science on climate change started with some observations about 60 or 80 years ago. Most folks ignored it, and the major voices in climate science were among them. Over the course of DECADES, the information got more and more persuasive, more and more data were gathered, and correlations were found between temperature “then” and other things that could be measured “now” (ice cores, tree rings, water height in ponds and lakes) and one of the correlations turned out to be CO₂ (and other human-made gasses). By now, everyone who has any chops in the area agrees that human-caused changes are driving climate change, which is real.

2: The science on Covid has been around for about 18 or 20 years (SARS), and the data about Covid-19 has, of course, been gathered since the fall of 2019. And the data about the pandemic is a bit younger than that. Still, with a great deal of effort, scientists have created several different types of vaccine which work much better than most vaccinations. And during that time, the virus has mutated a myriad times, of which some are much more infective than the first version. Delta, in fact, seems to be something between 100 and 1000 times more likely to infect than the original. And, worse yet, it can even re-infect people who have recovered or had the vaccine. Wow: It’s actually DANGEROUS… and it’s NOT the SAME as the one that showed up in 2019. Is it any surprise that the best advice keeps changing in an attempt to keep up with reality?

No, no, no. I already rolled my eyes at Chip Bok for his ’toon today. Gorrell gets a shrug and a shake of the head in despair for the fundamentally wrong – and deadly -misunderstanding of scientific methodology. ¯\(‘-’)/¯

Scientists have been studying Climate Change for decades. Covid about a year and a half. Big difference.

For a human to study the workings of a virus is, in metaphor, a viral infection looking at a viral infection. Which is basically more destructive?

No scientist has ever said that science is settled, especially with a new contagious disease. The disease will adapt to try to survive, and we have to also adapt as it changes.

Oddly enough, both are equally true. We know what we know, and then we know more.

Gorrell remains willfully ignorant, and tries to say that since the science on COVID isn’t settled(because the unvaccinated continue to allow more dangerous variants to spread) that means climate change science isn’t either, and we can continue not caring about either one.

Our response to Covid is a warning for what is to come with climate change.

The science on climate change has settled on ’it’s currently happening through wildfires, floods, extreme heat, and stronger hurricanes’ ​but also says that we have a window of time in which to act to prevent things from getting even worse’

the recent Covid guidance on being able not have to wear masks was based on the assumption that once vaccines became widely available that people would get them, but instead you and the rest of right wing media undermined the Covid response and vaccine effort at every turn, and now hospitals are seeing more severe patients now than at any time during the pandemic.

most people are willing to wear masks again to protect the immunocompromised and children under 13 who can’t get vaccinated yet, and yes even those who continue to refuse to be vaccinated. But not you and those getting their medical advice from Tucker Carlson, you’d prefer the virus to continue to mutate and kill people. Killing your own audience to ‘own the libs’

Climate science is based on observations that go back thousands of years (ice cores, tree rings and other geological observations). The idea of “greenhouse gases” is based on established physics and chemistry. The predictions made are panning out, so yeah, it’s settled science.

The Corona Virus has been with us for less than 2 years. Given the nature of how virus’ behave, what we learn changes with every variation of the virus. So the science is NOT settled.

Wrong again. Democrats have never claimed that science is settled. It’s the alt-righteous who simultaneously deny science while trying to bend it to their agenda.

The minutia of inexact detail re climate science has, as a result of enormous compilation of precise information enabled by technological advances/increased numbers of competent climatologist observers-evaluators/software evaluation capacity & competency increases by orders of magnitude/over three decades of unprecedented attention to climate change, resulted in conclusions which are enormously advanced/trustworthy compared with those three decades prior.

As more is understood every day henceforth about the the totality of the process of AGW global warming, resulting in even more accurate predictions about subsequent outcomes, that which may be labeled as “unsettled” science continues to become and ever more rapidly shrinking set of unknowns.

All this also pertains to C-19 and every future coronavirus, and potentially to past viruses presently sequestered in frozen portions of Earth surface soon to thaw as a result of AGW global warming.

This is the natural, inevitable, and inescapable reality of apprehending the existence of any bleeping thing, figuring out how to comprehend that thing, and then proceeding to the best possible understanding of that thing.

Sooo, let’s see: climate research: several decades’ investigation. covid research: several months’ research. little surprise climate research is ‘settled’ while covid is still under-going study.
