Know of any lifelong baseball fans of that Ohio Major League team who are okay with the name change?

Now they can “Root For Groot”!

Up there with the WORST name in the history of professional sports.

Don’t worry, it’s temporary. Cleveland Guardians is the name of a long-standing roller derby team, as any quick Google search would have showed. The baseball team is now in violation of a trademark, and will have to backpedal quickly to avoid a lawsuit.

A local school was protested for using the name “Apaches” until the tribe pointed out that the school had been doing teacher & student exchanges with the reservation since its founding.

I’ve no great admiration for the name “Guardians,” but everyone except the professional grumps will cease to miss “Indians” soon enough. Teams change their names all the time for many reasons, and this reason is better than many.

They better have a tree and a hot green person.

I always thought they did honor to the name, but I am only part Native American.

The NFL’s former Washington Redskins are now the Washington Football Team, but every time I see that abbreviated WFT, my brain wants to switch the last 2 letters around. I doubt that I’ll have the same problem thinking of CG as referring to the Coast Guard.
